Vocational (MBO) Software engineering | computer science internship: Alignment Diagnostic Tool

Introduction

ASML YieldStar is an optical metrology tool that can quickly and accurately measure the quality of patterns on the wafer. In order to meet market-requirements we need to keep up to speed when it comes to pattern-recognition.

Your Assignment

For ASML’s YieldStar systems, a dedicated on‑tool software application is used to perform alignment diagnostics. This application, known as ADT, features a graphical user interface built with XAML. The tool requires maintenance, including bug fixing and implementing small feature requests coming from customers such as Intel.

ADT is a standalone application that reads its inputs from XML files stored on disk, processes these inputs, and presents the information in a clear, user‑friendly manner. In some cases, extensions to the XML output generated on the machine may be needed. These XML files are produced during a job run on the YieldStar system and can be quite elaborate.

Updating or extending them introduces some extra complexity, but with proper guidance, a motivated and capable intern should be able to handle it.
The XML format is “upgradable,” meaning that structural changes may require working with XSLT transformations as well.

Larger feature requests also exist and can be taken on depending on the intern’s progress and capabilities.

The internship will contain:

• Collaboration with stakeholders to finalize/crosscheck requirements
• Coding in C#

• Be part of one of the multidisciplinary teams in YieldStar
• Experience working in a scrum team under the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), in an Agile Release Train
• Be supervised by a software expert
• Get to know more about the Software Development Life Cycle in a real-life product

This internship offers both technical and organizational challenges and will give the intern a very thorough view of how Yieldstar products are
created and how the R&D around it is organized.

Your profile

To be a match for this internship, you are a student in Vocational Education (MBO) ICT.

Other requirements you need to meet:

• You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

• Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;

• You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.

• If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
