About the Role

Job Description: Intern / Laser CAD

Location: Tucson, AZ (On-Site, 5 Days/Week)
Scope: National Responsibility (with Emphasis on Arizona)
Department: Tucson, AZ (Arcadia Custom Engineer)
Reports To: Division Manager
Position Type: Full-Time

About the Role:

As an Intern specializing in Laser CAD within the manufacturing industry, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design and development of precision laser-cut components. This position offers hands-on experience in creating detailed CAD models and technical drawings that directly influence manufacturing processes and product quality. You will collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to ensure designs meet specifications and are optimized for laser cutting technology. The role is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to advanced CAD software and laser manufacturing techniques, fostering your technical skills and industry knowledge. Ultimately, your contributions will help streamline production workflows and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of laser-cut parts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions accurately.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or coursework related to laser cutting technology or manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
  • Knowledge of materials commonly used in laser cutting such as metals and plastics.
  • Previous internship or project experience involving CAD design in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use additional design or simulation software is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating and modifying CAD models and technical drawings for laser-cut components.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production staff to understand design requirements and manufacturing constraints.
  • Support the preparation of files and documentation necessary for laser cutting operations.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback to improve CAD models.
  • Maintain organized records of design iterations and ensure compliance with company standards.

The required CAD skills are essential for daily tasks such as creating precise models and technical drawings that guide laser cutting operations. Attention to detail ensures that designs meet exact specifications and reduce errors during manufacturing. Communication skills facilitate effective collaboration with engineers and production teams to refine designs and resolve issues.
