Position Summary:

The integration of current coursework into an internship bridges the gap between academic study and professional practice, forming a bidirectional learning cycle. This process allows interns to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world challenges while using professional experiences to refine and deepen their understanding of academic concepts.

Internship Learning Objectives and Outcomes:

Progress will be evaluated through regular mentor check-ins, discussion of observed activities, participation in weekly lab meetings, review of the intern’s notes or summaries, and informal feedback during the internship. The intern will also complete a brief final reflection or presentation summarizing key concepts learned, skills developed, and areas of interest for future study.

Expected Outcomes:

By the end of the internship, the student will have gained introductory knowledge of biomedical research, liver biology, laboratory safety, research ethics, and experimental design. The intern will also develop basic supervised skills in scientific observation, data interpretation, literature discussion, scientific communication, and introductory laboratory techniques such as pipetting and basic sample handling.

We welcome talented individuals of all backgrounds regardless of gender, sex, religion, race, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, perceived disability, pregnancy, pregnancy-related condition, reproductive health decisions, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, HIV/AIDS, marital status, covered veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by local, state, or federal laws, rules, or regulations.
