Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets is seeking bright, energetic and talented undergraduates for our Corporate Banking Summer Internship Program in Sydney.  We understand that the first steps in a finance career are critical. With that in mind, we have the right formula to provide you with the opportunities and professional development you need to turn those first steps into a rewarding career.

RBC Capital Markets is a premier investment bank that delivers a broad range of investment banking products and services to institutions, corporations, governments and high net worth clients in over 100 countries. You will be part of a company with a superior financial track record, credit rating and reputation.

This is where you will find the global resources of a financial powerhouse, giving you access to industry leaders and visionaries that also make RBC Capital Markets a great place to work.

What will you do?

Summer interns will assist the Corporate Banking team in the origination, structuring, execution, administration and portfolio management of credit facilities and M&A-related financings to a portfolio of RBC Capital Markets’ clients. This may include:

  • Participating in the due diligence process for new financing transactions by analysing company filings, financial statements, diligence reports, equity / credit research, etc., as well as attending management presentations and diligence calls
  • Assisting with the preparation of internal credit presentations and related credit submission documentation, including producing detailed written credit analyses and analysing financial models to assess the creditworthiness of new and existing clients
  • Collaborating with peers from Investment Banking, Leveraged Finance, Risk Management and various other internal product partners to assess deal structures, industry dynamics and investment merits
  • Supporting team members in various ad-hoc and recurring initiatives such as portfolio management, administration and reporting, pipeline management and annual budgeting, as well as other special projects as needed
  • Liaising with back and middle office functions to set up transactions on various internal systems
  • Use market leading AI tools in daily work to enhance productivity, client insights, and risk analysis capabilities

You will be supported and developed in numerous ways throughout your internship, including participation in our formal orientation training programs and constructive feedback from your business manager throughout your internship.

What do you need to succeed?

We are interested in highly motivated candidates who have successfully balanced university, work experience and extra-curricular activities. Other essential qualities we look for include proven analytical skills, strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to play a key role as a team member in a fast-paced and challenging work environment, and a genuine interest in corporate finance and credit.

Candidates must be in their penultimate year of study and be Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents or eligible to work in Australia.

Interested candidates are asked to include a cover letter, resume, and current transcript. All documents should be compressed into one file (ideally PDF) and included in the resume section of the application.

What’s in it for you?

Our Summer Internship Program will provide you with the tools, support and flexibility to kick start your career. As an intern in Corporate Banking, you’ll get real, hands-on experience, career building mentorship, and direct exposure to how a major international investment bank operates.

At RBC Capital Markets, you will:

  • Develop a deep credit, structuring and execution skillset across various industry verticals, spanning a wide range of transaction types, and covering the entire ratings gamut from investment grade corporates, small/mid-market leveraged situations and private equity funds
  • Play an integral part in a growing and dynamic team with strong deal flow, a collegial and collaborative work environment and a flat structure with an open door policy
  • Gain direct involvement in and exposure to marquee M&A, LBO, acquisition and related transactions
  • Opportunity to build relationships with various industry and product partners and learn about RBC’s full product suite
  • Position provides a clear career path with significant runway in a team-oriented environment. You will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and earn recognition for your successes
