About the Role
Calgary Academy is seeking a dedicated and curious individual to join our IT and Educational Technology department for a four-month internship. This internship is an ideal opportunity for someone eager to explore the intersection of technology and education. While prior technical experience is a plus, a strong desire to learn and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service are the qualities we value most.
As an IT Learning Analyst, you’ll support frontline IT operations and help implement key technology initiatives, including device deployment, technology rollovers, and ongoing improvements to our technology plan. You’ll gain hands-on experience with both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure including systems like Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, Mosyle MDM, PowerSchool, and more.
This is an on-site position offering $22 per hour, with up to 37.5 hours per week available working Monday to Friday from 8AM - 4PM. We hire for internship intakes in May, September, and January, and may consider qualified applicants for future pools. In general, this posting is for the September intake. The role will be supervised by the Director of Technology for Learning and is contingent on grant funding.
Highlights of Key Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to students and staff regarding technology issues and questions as a front-line employee
- Participate in the IT Helpdesk by managing support tickets and consulting with other team members to triage requests
- Assist with onboarding and deployment of new devices (iPads, MacBooks)
- Prepare communications materials and provide administrative support to the Technology for Learning team
- Help inventory and audit school infrastructure and technology assets
- Develop simple, user-friendly how-to guides for students and staff as part of the staff knowledgebase
- Example Projects and Work Areas Include:
- Staffing the helpdesk and acting as the first point of contact for IT support
- Assisting with infrastructure inventory
- Preparing and deploying devices for incoming students and staff
- Creating end-user
documentation and support materials - Deploying, with guidance, network equipment and infrastructure
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in, and actively working toward the completion of, a post-secondary program in Information Technology, Education, or a related discipline such as Computer Science, Information Systems, or Educational Technology.
- A strong work ethic and commitment to learning
- Professionalism, adaptability, and a positive, team-first attitude
- Comfort working with K–12 students and staff with varying levels of tech proficiency
- The ability to build trusting relationships and create a safe, positive, and productive learning and working environment.
- Professionalism and agility.
- A willingness for continuous professional learning and integration of feedback.
- The ability to follow procedures, escalate issues appropriately, and contribute to a supportive, collaborative environment
- A clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector screening
- Experience in the following areas would be considered an asset:
- Working collaboratively in a school or customer service setting
- Microsoft and/or Apple systems
- Researching and troubleshooting using knowledge bases and/or community forums (e.g. Stackexchange)
