Position Summary: 

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern supports engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing initiatives by assisting with projects that improve safety, reliability, productivity, and operational performance. Working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, this role provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, equipment, maintenance systems, and continuous improvement activities while allowing the intern to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world manufacturing environment.


Essential Role Responsibilities & Functions:

Engineering & Project Support

  • Assist with engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing projects from planning through implementation.
  • Support equipment commissioning, testing, and project implementation activities.
  • Assist with project documentation, status updates, and follow-up on assigned action items.
  • Support vendor quote requests and project coordination activities as assigned.


Continuous Improvement & Asset Reliability

  • Participate in equipment criticality assessments and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with updating equipment records, spare parts information, and asset documentation within the maintenance management system.
  • Support continuous improvement projects focused on manufacturing operations, equipment reliability, and workplace safety.


Manufacturing Exposure & Professional Development

  • Participate in daily production meetings, technical discussions, equipment inspections, and other operational activities to develop an understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • Work alongside engineering, maintenance, and production personnel to gain practical manufacturing experience.
  • Complete additional assignments and projects that support business needs while providing meaningful learning opportunities.


Education & Experience
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Completion of coursework related to manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, project management, or industrial operations preferred.
  • Previous internship, co-op, manufacturing, maintenance, or technical work experience is beneficial but not required.

  • Strong interest in manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply technical concepts in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable collaborating across multiple departments and levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to ask questions and seek feedback.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings, technical documentation, or manufacturing processes is helpful but not required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The associate is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The associate is frequently required to stand and walk.
  • The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color acuity, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Mental and physical dexterity to facilitate machine operation and physical ability to obtain respirator clearance.
  • The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
