Job Description

The Role:

As an Intern you will report within the Verification and Validation Department. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and growing team of engineers working on the validation of HVDC Control Systems. This is a very exciting and dynamic field of control engineering in which GE’s leading contribution has worldwide recognition. 

HVDC Control System real-time Control and Protection software ensures correct and reliable operation of all aspects of HVDC converter station. In this role, successful applicant will participate and contribute for all aspects of control system testing including preparation of test plans and processes.

Responsibilities:
•    Work as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design, development and testing skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.
•    Execute with guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules or systems that meet business standards.
•    Support in producing required technical documentation, under the supervision of senior engineers (e.g. requirement capture, design, test specification development).
•    Follow the departments standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.
•    Assist with laboratory activities for the installation and testing of the control system.
•    Use some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance

The Person:

 

The candidate will have completed 2 years of degree level in a related science such as Electrical Engineering. However, this is not as important as a proven track record and evidence that you have the mind-set and abilities to perform the role.

Skills and Experience:

•    2:1-degree grade or above (or equivalent) predicted or obtained in Electrical Engineering, or related field. 
•    Good written communication skills – there should be little or no spelling and grammatical errors in their application.
•    Eligibility to undertake placement - the internship is for 12 months, all candidates should confirm on their application that they are available for this time period
    

Advantageous:

•    MathWorks Matlab Simulink model development and simulation.
•    PSCAD & RSCAD (power system studies).
•    Python or similar scripting experience.
•    Basic academic knowledge is sufficient; the rest will need to be taught on the job – candidate needs to be passionate and willing to learn

•    Proficient in the English language, written and verbal. Other languages are bonus
