The MFA’s Academic Engagement Department positions the MFA as an academic, social, and pre-professional resource for students and educators in grades PreK-12 through graduate students, interns, and fellows. The School and Educator Programs section of the department activates the Museum’s global art collection to foster students’ and teachers’ creativity and learning through high-quality programming, professional development, and teaching resources and supports Boston high school students in college and career readiness through workforce development opportunities and museum events.
The Academic Engagement Department is seeking an undergraduate level intern to work with the School and Educator Programs team with the primary focus in support of the paid teen workforce development program, Teen Arts Council. In addition, time will be structured to enable the intern to gain practical and broad-based museum experience through K-12 programming such as educator workshops, teaching resources, distance learning, the Boston Public Schools Partnership, and High School Programs. While the intern will work closely with the Academic Engagement team and colleagues across the Museum, the Director of School and Educator Programs and the High School Programs Associate will provide primary supervision and mentorship.
The intern's primary project will focus on amplifying teen perspectives through communications and promotions. The intern will work with Teen Arts Council members and MFA High School Programs staff to create and implement a communications strategy for the academic year that will both highlight the work of Teen Arts Council as well as promote opportunities for teens in greater Boston to engage with the MFA, such as Community Celebrations, Film series, and a teen event.
Ideal candidates must be able to commit to work onsite 15 hours weekly, mostly between 9am-5pm, M-F and consistently on Thursdays from 3pm-6:30pm between Sept 11 – April 30 (with breaks during school vacations). Additionally, interns must attend orientation on Fri, Sept 11, (10am-3:30pm), and the weekly Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Sept 18, Sept 25, Oct 2, Oct 9, Oct 16, Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 6, Nov 13, Nov 20, and Dec 4. The intern is also expected to be available for at least two of the three Sunday daytime events on Feb 7, March 14, and April 11
The intern will be paid at a rate of $16.80 per hour and will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy which is subject to tax withholdings.

Essential Functions:
- Work directly with Teen Art Council members on Thursday evenings from 4-6pm.
- Conduct research on teen related programming and organizations and develop a communications plan for MFA Teens.
- Participate in other key aspects of School and Educator Programs programming.
- Prepare and offer a 3-minute final synoptic presentation of the internship as part of the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in an undergraduate program concurrent with the internship period, (i.e., during fall 2026 and spring 2027)
- Demonstrated interest in museums.
- Demonstrated interest in working with teens.
- Interest in school and youth communities.
- Interest in and some knowledge of social media promotions.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team as well as comfort to work independently.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated written and communication skills with strong research abilities.

- Ability to attend orientation on Friday, September 11, 2026, 10am to 3:30pm.
