About The Company
The MFA is open. Open to new ideas that broaden our perspectives. Open to every visitor, from the curious to the lifelong learner. Open to new possibilities discovered through art. Showcasing ancient artistry and modern masterpieces, local legends and global visionaries, our renowned collection of nearly 500,000 works tells the story of the human experience—a story that holds unique meaning for everyone. We welcome diverse perspectives, both within the artwork and among our visitors. Where many worldviews meet, new ways of seeing, thinking, and understanding emerge. The conversations we inspire bring people together—revealing connections, exploring differences, and creating a community where all belong.
About the Role

The Marketing and Communications team (Creative, Database Marketing, Marketing and Public Relations) at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), promotes the MFA’s collection, exhibitions and programs through outreach to local, national and international press, print and digital advertising, management of social media channels with over 1.3 million followers, and email marketing.

The team is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented intern with strong communications skills and an interest in pursuing a career in marketing and communications. They will also have opportunities to grow their professional networks through interactions with colleagues and interns from departments across the Museum. Over the course of two semesters, the intern will progressively take on responsibility for the Museum's grassroots marketing efforts. During the fall semester, they will learn the strategies, tools, and processes that support grassroots outreach, and in the spring semester, they will take on a greater role in executing these initiatives with guidance from the Marketing and Communications team. Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Promotions in a fast-paced environment, the intern will become integrated into the daily operations of the Marketing and Communications team, gaining valuable practical skills and workplace experience.

The ideal candidate must commit to working onsite up to 16 hours a week, including a mutually predetermined combination of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, (and up to 7 external events per semester with differing time commitments), from September 13, 2025 through April 30, 2027, as well as attendance at the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development sessions from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Sept 18, Sept 25, Oct 2, Oct 9, Oct 16, Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 6, Nov 13, Nov 20, and Dec 4. Up to 4 hours per week may be completed remotely with prior approval of the mentor.

The intern will be paid at a rate of $16.80 per hour and will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy which is subject to tax withholdings.
