He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role: 

Our 10-12-week internship programme offers a meaningful opportunity to apply your studies in a rea life setting. Based in our corporate offices, you’ll shadow experienced professionals, contribute to ongoing work, and gain valuable insight into your potential career path. 

You’ll be assigned a buddy to support your development and help you navigate the KiwiRail way of working. Along the way, you’ll also receive health, safety, and personal development training to set you up for success. 

 

Internship opportunities for 2026/ 2027 include: 

  • 1x Cyber Security Intern Wellington 
  • 2x Civil Intern Auckland
  • 2x Electrical Intern Wellington 
  • 6x Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Interns -Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch 
  • 2 x Engineer or Project Management Wellington
  • 1 x Urban and Transport Planning / Economics Auckland

We’re looking for students who are: 

  • Curious and eager to learn 
  • Studying in a relevant field as listed above 
  • Strong communicators with a collaborative mindset 
  • Ready to explore career possibilities and contribute to real projects 
  • Citizens or residents of New Zealand
