Position Overview:
The School of Arts and Communications Makerspace department seeks a Student Worker to support the success and operation of our Makerspace. This role helps ensure the smooth operation of our makerspace to ensure that students and faculty use our equipment safely and properly.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the daily operations of running the makerspace.
- Safety Training students and faculty with equipment in the Makerspace.
- Daily cleaning and sanitization of equipment and the general room of the Makerspace.
- Assisting in and running Demos, workshops, and training sessions held by the Makerspace.
- Assisting with all social media for the Makerspace, and creation of instructional/tutorial videos. Including but not limited to photos and videos for documentation purposes of work and activities that occur in the Makerspace.
- Creating and managing inventory/reporting for the machine, equipment, and materials in the Makerspace.
- Create labeling and signage for the organizational structure in the Makerspace.
Learning Objectives:
- Students will become proficient in Makerspace tools and technologies.
- Students will develop skills in public speaking, leadership, organization, and social media.
- Students will develop an increased understanding of how to run and manage a space.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 hours availability per week.
- Be able to problem-solve and work through issues systematically.
- Be self-driven and motivated to be able to complete tasks during each shift without micromanagement.
- Having a baseline of computer and social media literacy to be able to navigate around using computer softwares and be able to create posts for social media.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Having previous basic experiences and understandings with digital fabrication tools and technologies (ex: Laser cutters, Vinyl cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, UV Printers, CAD software, etc...)
- Having leadership/communication skills and being comfortable with helping others in using specialized equipment.
- Highly organized and responsible.
