Library Outreach Associate

Location: Jennie King Mellon Library, Shadyside

Hours: Up to 12 hours a week

Pay: $11.00/hour

Job Description:

The JKM Library's Library Outreach Associate position will collaborate with the Head of Library Instruction and Outreach on a variety of tasks, including the creation of social media content and management of social media channels, writing blog post and various communications such as newsletters, creating library displays and exhibits, assisting with the planning of library events, creating marketing materials (including but not limited to infographics, social media content, signage, brochures, and videos), and some administrative tasks as needed.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have the capacity for creativity and innovation, and be familiar with creative work
  • Have strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Have a high level of attention to detail
  • Have experience in a variety of software (social media management platforms, graphic design tools, multi-media production software, etc.) or the capacity to learn them quickly
  • Be comfortable learning on the job and working independently
  • Be highly organized

Bonus experience includes (not required):

  • Graphic design
  • Video editing
  • Customer service
  • Event planning
  • Experience in a library setting

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the management of the JKM Library social media accounts and email newsletter.
  • Works closely with the Head of Library Instruction and Outreach and other Chatham community members to plan and coordinate events. The LOA will also attend events when possible as a library representative.
  • Creates and maintains marketing and outreach materials for the JKM Library, including but not limited to infographics, social media content, signage, brochures, and videos.
  • Assists in writing and creating various communications, such as blog posts and newsletters.
  • Creates JKM Library displays and exhibits around pre-selected themes and focuses.
  • Contributes to administrative tasks and additional projects in the library as needed.

  • Student employee will learn how to manage and execute high quality creative projects on a deadline
  • Student employee will learn how to work effectively in both a team and independently
  • Student employee will learn how to adopt new technologies to complete assigned tasks
  • Student employee will learn how to work in a modern library setting

All current student employees should notify their other manager(s) if you work multiple jobs on campus at the same time. Additionally, students may not work more than 20 hours per week (combined between all campus jobs) during the academic year. Students may not exceed 980 work hours per calendar year.

Student jobs do not automatically roll over to the next academic year or summer.
