About the Role

What We're Seeking:

SWD Inc., located in Addison, IL. is looking for a Fall semester Training & Development Intern! We are looking for current students pursuing a Bachelors' degree in Industrial-Organizational (I/O) Psychology, Psychology, Adult Learning/Education, Human Resources, Operations Management, or a related field of study, with an interest in training and development in manufacturing. This internship will be 100% on-site in Addison, IL. You must be able to commute to our facility. This internship is PAID at $18.00 per hour.

This internship will span over the Fall semester (Aug-Dec). However, we are flexible on the starting and ending dates depending on your classes and schedule. Hours are flexible! We know you have classes and homework to complete. Hours will range between 15-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday. This position will work directly with our Training Manager & Content Design Specialist, who will work with you to develop your current knowledge and skills in the area of training and employee development. 


Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Assist with administrative training tasks
  • Coordinate and assist with scheduling and preparing new hire and existing in class trainings
  • Assist with Instructional Design of in class trainings and LMS Trainings
  • Conduct work analysis and job analysis with Subject Matter Experts
  • Create and distribute “Training Topic of the Month” and toolbox talk flyers.
  • Translate trainings and work instruction in Spanish (if applicable)
  • Conduct Training Orientation for new hires
  • Develop training materials to assist with learning (quick reference cards, charts, matrix, pictures, and diagrams)
  • Conduct Learning Styles Assessments
  • Report on skills evaluation scores
  • Report on competency skills
  • Create surveys and polls
  • Research on new learning opportunities that will support the core performance goals of the company
  • Participate in Wellness Committee activities and projects
  • Create and develop your own training intern program

Qualifications:

  • Very Personable!! You will be speaking with employees and candidates on a daily basis.
  • Bilingual speaking is a huge plus!
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Understanding of PC operating systems
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize well
  • Strong follow through with tasks and projects
  • A self-starter who’s motivated by serving others
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

About Us:

SWD Inc. opened for business in March 1980 with three employees in a 9,000 sq. ft. leased facility and began black oxiding, cleaning, and pickling operations with used equipment. In late 1980, the company began passivating stainless steel and in 1981 purchased Fastener Sorting Corporation. Today, a recognized leader in the Metal Finishing and Fastener Sorting fields, SWD Inc. has over 250 employees and runs three shifts per day in its 250,000 sq. ft. facility just west of Chicago in Addison, Illinois.
