Role Purpose

Support manufacturing and automation initiatives through mechanical design, PLC programming, reporting, and process improvement activities. The role provides hands-on experience in mechanical design, fixture development, manufacturing problem solving, and automation support within a real industrial production environment. The intern will also contribute to Power BI dashboard development, automated report generation, and collaboration with automation vendors to improve ergonomics, material handling, and process performance in fiber optical connector manufacturing.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical design activities for manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and process improvements.
  • Assist in PLC programming and controls-related tasks for automation projects.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of manufacturing processes for fiber optical connectors.
  • Generate and maintain Power BI dashboards for operational and manufacturing performance tracking.
  • Support report automation and preparation of weekly reports.
  • Participate in fixture development to improve productivity, ergonomics, and material handling.
  • Help identify and solve manufacturing problems related to process performance and equipment functionality.
  • Collaborate with automation vendors during design, implementation, and follow-up of automation solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in the production environment.
  • Document technical work, progress updates, and process improvements.

 

 

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanics, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical design.
  • Basic understanding of PLC programming and industrial automation concepts.
  • Interest in manufacturing processes and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Basic data analysis and reporting skills.

 

 

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of Power BI dashboards and report automation.
  • Interest in controls design and mechanical design improvement.
  • Exposure to fixture design, ergonomics, and material handling improvements.
  • Experience or interest in working with automation vendors.
