About the Role

Company Description

By starting your career at Deloitte, you are joining a community of extraordinary professionals who put ‘making an impact’ at the heart of what they do. With our global reach, unwavering support, inclusive atmosphere, and cutting-edge technology, you'll have the opportunity to evolve into your fullest potential.

An intern role at Deloitte is the perfect way to spend your summer and get a taste of what working for Deloitte would look like. You start with a cohort of people just like you, who have finished their penultimate year of study, and are wanting to spend their break getting hands-on experience in the field they are interested in pursuing after graduation. People at Deloitte are the best at what they do, and learning from high-performers is a fantastic way to kickstart your growth and career.

“Deloitte is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, including the integration and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our solutions. We value adaptability and a growth mindset, recognising that AI is transforming the way organisations operate. By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to develop skills that prepare you for the future of work and contribute to shaping how technology drives meaningful impact.”

Interns have a two-day induction in their office to understand the corporate environment, what the expectations are, and the role of interns at Deloitte. The internship runs from mid-November (following university exams), has a three week break over Christmas and New Years, and finishes early February before you head back to your final year of university. You will be part of a cohort of 150+ others, all learning collaboratively and building a foundation for your career.

Once you sign your contract with Deloitte, you will start in November that year. Between the application process and your start-date, we have a number of touchpoints including a buddy reaching out to you, so you feel part of the Deloitte whānau before your first day.

If you are interested in pursuing a graduate role at Deloitte after your internship, your buddy and coach can help provide feedback and ensure you make the most of the opportunity. A number of our interns receive a graduate contract at the end of their internship meaning they have secured a job for after university and do not need to apply again! Internships are only available to people with one more year of study. If you are in your final year of study – we hire a number of graduates who didn’t complete internships. For more information about our available roles, see our website.

Job Description

You’ll join Deloitte’s Internal Audit and Controls Assurance team in Auckland, helping organisations strengthen how they manage risk, controls and governance across their business.

As an intern, you’ll support the team on internal audit and controls assurance engagements, learning how business processes, systems and controls operate in practice and how risks are identified, assessed and managed.

Our work spans a range of industries, including Financial Services, Government and Public Sector, Energy & Infrastructure, Telecommunications and Healthcare. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to real client work while building your understanding of internal audit, risk management and controls assurance.

Your typical day will include:

  • Working alongside your project team, internal subject matter experts and Deloitte leaders in a flat and collaborative environment.

  • Supporting fieldwork, testing and documentation by reviewing how clients’ processes and controls are designed and how they operate.

  • Developing your understanding of key business risks and contributing ideas for practical improvements, with coaching and guidance from more experienced team members.

Qualifications

Enough about us, let's talk about you. You are someone with:

  • No previous internal audit, risk or controls assurance experience is required. Part-time work, volunteering, internships or other experience in accounting/finance, business, analytics, law, technology or customer service is beneficial.

  • You are in your penultimate year of study and will have one year remaining before completing your bachelor’s degree. We welcome applicants from a wide range of degrees, including Commerce/Business, Science, Law, Technology, Arts or related disciplines.

  • An analytical and curious mindset, strong attention to detail, and an interest in understanding how organisations manage risk, controls and governance.

  • A proactive, adaptable and collaborative attitude, with clear communication skills and a willingness to learn, ask questions and contribute as part of a high-performing team.

Additional Information

What do you need to apply?

  • An up-to-date CV
  • An academic transcript (does not have to be official, but must show recent grades, your full name, and the name of the tertiary provider)
  • The legal right to live and work in Aotearoa

Does this sound exactly like the sort of role and organisation for you? Then apply now! We’d love to hear from you.
