About the Role

Job Title: Student Worker - Market Garden/Farm Assistant - World Hunger Relief

Work Schedule: 8-20 hours per week. Daily start times and workdays will be discussed and established based on the applicant’s availability and WHR’s needs. Typically, these are M-F between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm and possibly Saturdays.

Desired Length of Employment: Fall and Ongoing

Pay Rate: $12.00/hr

Key Components:

  • In a student employee capacity, may assist in working with external community service partners.

Job Description:

What are we looking for: We’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to jump in and help out. We need an individual who loves working outdoors, has good communication and interpersonal skills, a great attitude, a strong work ethic, can be trusted to complete assigned tasks without being micromanaged, and is comfortable learning and working outside in the field and with our livestock.

General Qualifications: Previous experience with small-scale, sustainable/regenerative agriculture is preferred but not required. Must be able to work alongside a team as well as facilitate volunteer and group learning experiences. Must be able to sustain extended periods of time working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to lift 50-100 lbs. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.


Essential Functions:
Learn about and communicate WHR’s mission and values
Work in the market garden harvesting, planting, weeding, etc.
Assist in the preparation and staffing of the Farmer’s Market
Educate, instruct, orient, train, and inspire volunteers and clients in the realm of composting, sustainable agriculture, hunger alleviation, and food justice
Assist with community outreach and educational programs on-farm and in the community in the Market Garden
Run various routine errands, as required, for the farm
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
