Description of the Position: 

The Recreation Attendant is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the campus recreation and athletic facilities. This position is paramount for effective front-line operations by providing customer service, maintaining facility cleanliness, managing equipment checkout, and enforcing facility policies and procedures.

Transferable Skills: 

Candidates will develop strong customer service and communication skills while interacting with a diverse campus population. Additionally, candidates will build problem-solving skills, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to enforce policies professionally and consistently.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor facility access by swiping and verifying patron ID cards.

  • Greet and assist patrons in a professional and welcoming manner.

  • Check out and receive gym and recreational equipment.

  • Clean and sanitize fitness equipment and shared spaces regularly.

  • Perform routine walkthroughs of activity spaces to ensure safety and cleanliness.

  • Enforce facility policies and procedures in a respectful and consistent manner.

  • Respond to incidents and emergencies and notify professional staff as appropriate.

  • Complete required trainings and attend scheduled staff meetings.

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills):

  • Open availability, including mornings, evenings, weekend, and academic breaks.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.

  • Ability to enforce policies and handle conflict in a professional manner.

  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Physical and Environmental Factors:

This position requires crouching, twisting/pivoting, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, and lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs. to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise and proximity hazards, as well as rare exposure to respiratory factors, chemicals, vibrations, wet or humid conditions indoors, and extreme heat. Protective equipment is required to perform some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
