Position Overview
Fencing Supply Group is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking Computer Science student for a part-time, remote internship. This role is designed to be highly flexible (10-20 hours per week) to accommodate a rigorous academic schedule and existing university commitments.
The ideal candidate will work closely with the IT Development team to build standalone, non-critical internal utility tools, explore generative AI capabilities, and streamline data workflows. This position offers a direct mentorship opportunity to learn real-world software engineering discipline, production standards, and code maintenance.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
•Internal Scripting & Utility Development: Write, test, and maintain Python-based scripts to parse data formats, automate repetitive internal workflows, and build standalone utility tools.
•AI & LLM Experimentation: Assist in developing and testing internal proofs-of-concept utilizing GPT-based tools, API integrations, and prompt engineering frameworks.
•Code Discipline & Documentation: Maintain clean code repositories using Git/GitHub, write clear technical documentation, and actively participate in the code review process to align with team standards.
•Asynchronous Collaboration: Manage project tasks independently, providing regular, proactive updates on progress and hours spent via digital collaboration tools.
Qualifications & Skills
•Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related technical field (Senior standing preferred).
•Programming Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge of Python; exposure to C++ or Java is a plus.
•AI Frameworks: Hands-on experience or academic project work involving Generative AI, LLM APIs, and basic prompt engineering techniques.
•Core Engineering Tools: Basic familiarity with Git/GitHub, debugging methods, and algorithm design.
•Soft Skills: Strong time-management capabilities, willingness to receive constructive code feedback, and a high level of resourcefulness when troubleshooting technical challenges.
