About The Company
Founded at the end of the Second World War, the United Nations is an international organization made up of 193 Member States committed to maintaining international peace and security. Every day the UN works to tackle global challenges and deliver results for those most in need. Giving life-saving support to populations hit by humanitarian crises, helping build and keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas, supporting governments and their citizens to advance development and fight poverty, and promoting human rights worldwide are the core pillars of the work of the United Nations and the mandates it receives from its Member States. The Charter of the United Nations is available in full at: http://www.un.org/en/documents/charter/
About the Role

Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Office of the Deputy Executive Director (DEDO) provides strategic and coordination support to the Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, UN Coordination and Programme Results. DEDO works across UN Women's divisions, country and regional offices, and inter agency mechanisms to advance coordination on the organization's normative, inter agency and programmatic priorities. Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Executive Director and the direct supervision of the Special Assistant, the intern will provide coordination support across five priority workstreams: the Young Women and Girls Strategy, UN Women's Middle East response, follow up to the Inter Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) Strategic Leadership Group, and support the coordination of the Africa strategy with UN Women's Liaison Office to the African Union.

Across all 4 workstreams, the intern's role will consolidate and track information on behalf of the Deputy Executive Director's Office, and wherever possible the intern will draw on existing meetings, minutes and trackers already in circulation. The incumbent will also ensure a short digest from the consolidated trackers is shared back with contributing teams, so the trackers are a resource for them as well as for the Deputy Executive Director's Office.

•    Support preparation for subsequent Strategic Leadership Group engagements, including RSVP tracking, scheduling and briefing materials.

4. Africa Strategy Coordination
•    Maintain a coordination tracker between the Deputy Executive Director's Office and UN Women's Liaison Office to the African Union, covering scheduled engagements, joint initiatives and pending action points.
