About the Role

Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

If you are interested in joining a team that is caring, collaborative, innovative and energizing this might be a great place for you!

Clinic Services

Mental Health Cooperative is seeking psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner interns to assist in providing clinical mental health services to clients of all ages. This internship will provide the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in school to develop clinical skills using evidence-based practice. Under supervision of their preceptor, interns will perform direct patient care including diagnosing psychiatric illness and recommending psychotropic medication when appropriate and in accordance with standardized procedures. Interns will provide general counseling, guidance and health instruction to clients and family members. Interns will complete clinical documentation in a timely manner that is consistent with agency standards. Interns will play a role in the client’s treatment team with other departments throughout the agency. Additional learning and training opportunities will be available.

Many of the clients at Mental Health Cooperative are severely and persistently mentally ill and don’t have the means to pay for the treatment they need. MHC works primarily with patients who are uninsured or have TennCare, to give them the same care offered to others that will allow them to better manage their symptoms and live productive lives.

Requirements: PMHNP interns must be master’s level students in an accredited advanced practice nursing program. This internship requires a minimum of one semester and maximum of three semester commitment.

Mental Health Cooperative embraces inclusion, diversity and equal opportunity. We're committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. Mental Health Cooperative is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
