About the Role

Garland Commercial Ranges is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Data & Business Intelligence Intern on an 8 to 12-month contract!  

This role will support ongoing data initiatives across multiple business functions. This role is ideal for someone who wants hands-on experience working with real-world datasets, building dashboards, and translating business requirements into actionable insights. 

You will work to develop and enhance reporting solutions that contribute directly to dashboards, KPIs, and decision-making.

Reporting to the Director, Information Technology I, this position is 100% based in-office at our Mississauga, Ontario facility. This is an 8 to 12-month contract, which is an addition to headcount. 

Major Accountability:

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports
  • Write and troubleshoot DAX calculations (e.g., KPIs, aggregations, filters)
  • Assist in data validation and troubleshooting discrepancies
  • Collaborate with business users to gather requirements and translate them into reporting solutions
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, and cleansing from multiple sources (e.g., SQL databases, Excel, Salesforce)
  • Support ongoing improvements to existing dashboards (performance, usability, accuracy)
  • Document data definitions, logic, and reporting processes 

Qualifications

  • Specialized Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities 
    • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
    • Basic experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools (academic or personal projects acceptable)
    • Familiarity with Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data cleansing)
    • Understanding of relational data concepts (tables, joints, keys)
    • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Nice to have’s
    • Experience with DAX and Power Query (M language)
    • Basic knowledge of SQL
    • Exposure to tools such as Salesforce, ERP systems, or data warehouses
    • Experience working with large datasets or business reporting
    • Familiarity with data visualization best practices
  • Education and Experience
    • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or related field
  • Working Conditions 
  • Heavy computer use. 
  • Normal office environment; must be able to sit for long periods
