The Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) provide a significant and stable source of retirement, disability and survivor benefits to Missouri's public school teachers, school employees and their families. PSRS and PEERS are Defined Benefit (DB) pension plans providing lifetime retirement benefits to qualified members based on a formula set by Missouri law. PSRS/PEERS work in partnership with the member school districts of this state to provide eligible employees and their beneficiaries with a significant source of income based on the employee's length of service and salary in order to enhance retirement, disability and death benefits received from other sources. We currently serve over 130,000 active members and approximately 107,000 retirees and beneficiaries.
About the Role

Be a Summer 2027 Private Markets Investments Intern at Missouri's largest defined benefit pension plan. We are looking for organized and motivated interns to assist the private equity and private credit investments staff.

About PSRS/PEERS

PSRS/PEERS is the largest defined benefit pension plan in Missouri with more than 320,000 members. We work in partnership with Missouri public school districts to provide retirement security for Missouri's public school teachers and education employees.

Our 180 employees work out of locations in St. Louis, Missouri and on the west side of Jefferson City, Missouri. Our office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and many positions have scheduling flexibility within those hours. About the Job

PSRS/PEERS Private Markets Investments Interns have the unique opportunity to be a part of the investment team of an award winning, world-class institutional investment program, with an internship experience particularly focused on private equity and private credit asset classes. The market value of total invested assets for PSRS/PEERS is approximately $65 billion as of December 31, 2025. Private equity and private credit have target allocations of up to 21% and 8%, respectively of plan assets. The primary focus of the investment program is to achieve an annual return of at least 7.3% over long periods of time. PSRS/PEERS attempts to reduce overall portfolio risk by diversifying into several asset classes including both public and private investments, across both domestic and international markets.

As Private Markets Investments Intern, you will support the PSRS/PEERS Private Equity and Private Credit ("Private Markets") investment team, overseeing approximately $14 billion of assets. You will assist with diverse, high impact tasks and projects, both ongoing and as assigned. You will gain valuable knowledge and experience across private markets, particularly in the underwriting, management, and monitoring of the Private Markets Portfolio. This position reports directly to the Investment Officer, Private Markets and will work closely with members across the broader Private Markets team. It is a paid position with flexible scheduling, located at our office on the west side of St. Louis, Missouri. 

Job Requirements

Our ideal candidate is a current university student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics or a related field.

 

Our Private Markets Investments Intern should:

· Have a natural interest in, or an openness to, learning about private equity, private credit, and alternative investments broadly

· Be an intellectually curious and open-minded team player who works well independently and in team situations and can establish positive working relationships with our staff

· Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Have knowledge of finance and investment principles and practices, the methods and techniques used for financial analysis, and administrative organization and support processes

· Be skilled in preparing reports and presentations and maintaining physical and electronic files

· Be skilled in the use of a personal computer and standard business software including Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience building or maintaining databases is a plus

· Periodic and infrequent day travel to the PSRS/PEERS Jefferson City, MO office is anticipated
