Position Summary

Are you curious about the research and people behind UNM’s largest college? Do you want to build a professional portfolio that includes real bylines before you graduate? 

The College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) is looking for a student who wants real communications and marketing experience covering the faculty, students, and staff who make up A&S. 

In this position, you will write and pitch stories for UNM News, interview A&S faculty, staff, and students, take photographs, and create content for the College’s newsletter, website, and social channels. You’ll work closely with our Marketing team on stories, events, and day-to-day projects. 

Minimum Qualifications: 
Enrolled at least half-time in a UNM degree-seeking program (half-time enrollment is six or more credit hours fall and spring, excluding audit hours). Work-study students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. 

Duties: 

  • Write, pitch, and fact-check content for UNM News, the College newsletter, and social media, including interviewing faculty, staff, and students  
  • Contribute photography to accompany stories and events 
  • Support administrative tasks like updating the College content calendar, media monitoring, helping with newsletter production, tracking event attendance, updating College directories, and logging stories

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong writing and editing skills 
  • Comfortable with basic photography; video skills a plus 
  • Able to manage your own time and deadlines 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft (Word, Excel, Sharepoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud 
  • Willingness to help with physical setup and teardown at events (some lifting, standing, and moving of on-campus event materials required)
