About the Role

Position Summary:

Supports MIU's social media and paid advertising efforts by producing short-form video content and image assets, from concept through final edit. Capture authentic campus life, student voices, and program highlights for use across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and paid ad campaigns

Students this Position Appeals to:

Students that are interested in video production, photography, social media, and digital marketing. A good fit for students studying media, communications, marketing, or the arts, or anyone who enjoys storytelling through video and wants hands-on experience creating content for a real brand and audience. No prior professional experience required.

Experience Gained / Advantages for Student:

  1.  A professional portfolio built on real, published work. Content that ran on MIU's actual social channels and ad campaigns, not practice projects, which is a stronger resume line than most students get from a part-time job.
  2. Room to sharpen your creative instincts. Students bring their own eye for what makes content worth watching, then apply, test, and refine that instinct, along with real-world editing practice.
  3. Exposure to how a marketing team actually operates. Working within a content calendar, taking directions from a marketing department, and seeing how individual videos connect to bigger enrollment and advertising goals, structure most students don't get creating content for themselves.
  4. A resume-ready title and reference. "Content Creator, University Marketing Department" carries more weight in job and internship applications than unpaid personal social media work, plus a professional reference from your team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Independently identify and film video and photo content across campus, capturing student life, events, and program highlights for MIU's social media and paid advertising campaigns
  • Edit raw footage into finished, publish-ready videos and photos
  • Deliver content on schedule according to the marketing team's content calendar and campaign deadlines
  • Coordinate with marketing staff on campaign priorities, target audiences, and brand guidelines
  • Maintain organized files of raw and finished footage for reuse across future campaigns

Requirements

  • Existing experience creating and editing video/photo content (personal social media content counts)
  • Access to a smartphone or camera capable of high-quality video and photo capture
  • Comfortable approaching and directing other students or faculty on camera
  • Able to work independently, managing your own shooting and editing schedule to meet deadlines

Job Qualifications:

  • A strong eye for what makes content engaging, understands pacing, framing, and what stops someone mid-scroll
  • Genuine interest in social media trends and short-form video formats
  • Reliable and self-motivated, comfortable managing your own time without close supervision
  • Good communication skills, able to take direction on brand voice and campaign goals and translate it into your own creative approach
  • Prior coursework or experience in media, communications, marketing, or the arts is a plus but not required

How this position helps the department

Provides the marketing team with a steady pipeline of authentic, student-shot video and photo content for social media and paid advertising, content that reads as genuine peer perspective rather than polished institutional messaging, which is increasingly what performs best in both organic social and ad campaigns. It also extends the team's production capacity without adding staff overhead, letting the department capture more campus moments, events, and student stories than existing staff bandwidth allows.

How this position helps the department

Builds a portfolio of real, published work in video and photo content, directly relevant to careers in media production, marketing, communications, and social media management. Students gain practical experience translating creative instincts into brand-aligned content with real campaign stakes, a skill set that's increasingly in demand across marketing, advertising, and content roles regardless of specific major. The independent, deadline-driven nature of the role also builds project management and self-direction skills that transfer to nearly any career path.

Supervisor: Rose Hoffman

Rose is the Director of Marketing at MIU, where she leads paid media, digital strategy, and enrollment marketing across the university's programs. She's an MIU alum, having earned her BA in Business Administration on this campus, and got her start here as a Copywriter before growing into her current role. That path gives her a genuine appreciation for student work and student perspective, which is a big part of why this position exists: she'd rather have content shaped by a student's real eye than something that reads as institutional messaging.
