About The Company
Oil & Gas Exploration and Production Company Established in 1965, Mewbourne Oil Company has grown into one of the more prominent independent oil and natural gas producers in the Anadarko and Permian Basins of Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. The company’s success over the years can be attributed to a conservative approach to the business and a philosophy of managing all phases of operations from “prospect to pipeline”. From the Company’s headquarters in Tyler, Texas, and with its three exploration offices located in Amarillo and Midland, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, along with four operation offices located in Perryton and Midland, Texas, Woodward, Oklahoma, and Hobbs, New Mexico, Mewbourne Oil Company develops oil and natural gas prospects, acquires leasehold interests, and serves as the operator in the drilling, completion and production of oil and natural gas wells. With over 50 years of experience, the company has focused its efforts on two of this country’s most prolific producing regions, the Anadarko, and Permian Basins. Historically, the Company has emphasized establishing long-life natural gas reserves through the drilling of medium-depth wells between 3,000 and 13,000 feet deep Prospective drill sites generally include field extensions, step-outs, trend plays and other anomalies that are believed to be contiguous to areas where the presence of oil and natural gas has already been established. The company currently operates over 2,500 wells. Mewbourne Oil Company has consistently been successful in attracting and retaining professional talent within the industry and at the university level. Mewbourne also actively recruits for petroleum engineering, geology, and petroleum land management students at the university level for summer internships and entry-level positions. We have demonstrated an ability to continue the development of these quality employees and to growth opportunities regardless of the current business cycle the industry experiences
About the Role

About this role

As a Petroleum Engineer Intern at Mewbourne Oil Company, you will gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a leading independent oil and gas company. This immersive internship provides direct exposure to field production activities, drilling and completion operations, facility maintenance, regulatory compliance, and safety procedures across Mewbourne's operating areas.

Interns work alongside experienced field personnel, foremen, lease operators, production engineers, and management teams to develop a comprehensive understanding of upstream oil and gas operations. Through field visits, job shadowing, and project-based assignments, interns will observe and participate in activities such as well site inspections, production optimization efforts, equipment monitoring, troubleshooting operational challenges, and analyzing field performance data.

This internship is designed to provide meaningful, real-world experience while helping interns build technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of how various disciplines work together to safely and efficiently produce oil and natural gas. Interns are encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas, and take ownership of projects that support operational objectives.

Key Learning Opportunities:

  • Observe daily field operations, including production, drilling, completion, and facility activities.
