The Position

Internship as Associate SW Test Engineer

This is a 12-month (one-year) full-time internship opportunity designed to provide deep professional immersion in Sant Cugat Spain.

Purpose of the Role

Imagine a world where medical diagnoses are faster and more accurate, directly improving the lives of millions. At Roche, this isn't just a dream—it's our daily work. In the internship as an Associate SW Test Engineer, you will be at the heart of our interdisciplinary CHU & CB Integration & Testing team. You won't just be testing code; you will be ensuring that the next generation of diagnostic instruments—integrating hardware, software, and reagents—is reliable and safe for the patients who depend on them.

This isn't a solo journey. You will join a vibrant, high-performing international community, collaborating across our state-of-the-art hubs in St. Cugat (Spain) and Rotkreuz (Switzerland). Together, we bridge the gap between product definition and software development to deliver life-changing medical devices.

Your Impact & Responsibilities

As you launch your career with us, you will take ownership of exciting technical challenges. Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Creation, maintenance and review of SW test cases in all lifecycle phases (from early feasibility to product care) considering the respective customer workflows
  • Execution and documentation of test cases including defect reporting
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant processes, guidelines and working instructions
  • Supporting the definition of new features and functions to ensure clarity and testability of requirements and user stories

Who You Are

We are looking for curious minds ready to dive into the world of biomedical technology. You are a great fit if:

  • you hold a Master's degree (MSc) or Bachelor's degree (BSc) in a relevant technical or biomedical field, such as biomedical engineering, biotechnology, life sciences, informatics or a related discipline.
  • You have a foundational interest in SW testing (black box testing) and are eager to master testing tools like Retina.
  • You communicate fluently in English (B2/C1), allowing you to thrive in our international team.
  • you have the ability to actively contribute to team collaboration, inclusion, sharing ideas and good team spirit, as well as mutual trust and respect (project team and sub chapter level)

Bonus points if you have a basic understanding of diagnostic workflows (coagulation or serum areas) or initial exposure to software testing!

What You Can Expect

At Roche, your growth is our priority. You can expect:

  • Teamwork with ambitious and passionate people building high-quality products meeting customer’s needs
  • An agile working environment allowing for collaboration and knowledge sharing in cross-functional teams
  • Fostered collaboration within the project and chapter to build and maintain a trust-based network with people who share common interests or goals

You will be based in St. Cugat, Spain, as part of a team that embraces diversity as our greatest strength.

Are you ready to influence your own development and look beyond a job title? Apply now and start your journey with us.
