About the Internship 

CSMC is seeking an Mechatronics Intern to support the design, integration, testing, and analysis of advanced engineering systems for nuclear, aerospace, defence, and remote energy applications. 

The successful candidate will work alongside multidisciplinary teams of engineers to develop electromechanical subsystems, prototype hardware, support testing activities, and contribute to the development of innovative technologies from concept through deployment. 


This position is ideal for 4th year bachelors and graduate students interested in system integration, mechatronics, controls, power systems, instrumentation, or advanced hardware development. 

 

Your Role: 

  • Support the design and development of electromechanical systems and hardware for advanced energy, aerospace, and defence applications. 
  • Assist with system integration involving mechanical components, sensors, actuators, motors, power electronics, and control systems. 
  • Develop and evaluate test plans for electromechanical components and subsystems. 
  • Conduct performance analyses, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations for hardware systems. 
  • Develop analytical and simulation models to support system design and optimization. 
  • Assist with control system development, instrumentation, and data acquisition activities. 
  • Support prototype assembly, hardware testing, verification, and validation activities. 
  • Analyze experimental data using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools. 
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, engineering drawings, and presentations. 
  • Contribute to proposal development, technical studies, and research initiatives as required. 

 

Qualifications
Required 

-Currently enrolled as a 4th year in an engineering bachelor's or Master's or PhD program in: 

  • Mechanical Engineering 
  • Electrical Engineering 
  • Mechatronics Engineering 
  • Robotics Engineering 
  • Aerospace Engineering 
  • Nuclear Engineering 

-Strong foundation in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Electromechanical Systems 
  • Mechatronics 
  • Robotics 
  • Controls Engineering 
  • Instrumentation 
  • Embedded Systems 
  • Power Systems 

-Experience gained through graduate research, laboratory projects, thesis work, or engineering design activities. 

-Familiarity with CAD and engineering design software such as: 

  • SolidWorks 
  • Fusion 360 
  • CATIA 
  • Siemens NX 
  • Equivalent tools 

-Experience with one or more technical computing tools such as: 

  • Python 
  • MATLAB/Simulink 
  • LabVIEW 
  • C/C++ 
  • Embedded programming environments 

-Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

 

Preferred 

  • Experience with sensors, actuators, motor control systems, and embedded electronics. 
  • Research or project experience involving robotics, automation, autonomous systems, or remote operations. 
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, PCB design, or power electronics. 
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing or control system development. 
  • Knowledge of system engineering and requirements verification methodologies. 
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition. 
  • Publications, conference presentations, design competitions, or significant technical project contributions. 
  • Interest in advanced nuclear systems, defence technologies, aerospace systems, or space exploration.
