Biological Sciences Undergraduate Intern
Job Overview:
The Plant Physiology Lab seeks a dedicated and
detail-oriented student worker to assist with a range of laboratory and
research tasks. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in plant
physiology and be willing to learn new techniques and protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily laboratory tasks including cleaning and maintaining equipment, preparing solutions, and managing inventory of laboratory supplies.
- Participate in setting up, conducting, and documenting experiments under the supervision of the supervisor.
- Particularly, participate in transgenic plant production and maintenance after training.
- Use lab software for data entry, analysis, and presentation.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of plants in the lab and greenhouse.
- Follow all laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
- Attend lab meetings and contribute to discussions on research findings and project progress.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a biology or related degree program at ESU.
- Prior lab experience or coursework involving plant biology or physiology is preferred but not required.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn lab-specific software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 25 pounds and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Additional Information:
- Hourly Rate $7.25
- This position requires a commitment of at least 3 hours per week. The schedule is flexible. Some weekend and evening hours may be required depending on the needs of the laboratory.
- The Plant Physiology Lab Assistant is a valuable member of our research team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in plant physiology research, working closely with faculty and graduate students. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
