About the Role

Biological Sciences Undergraduate Intern

Job Overview:

The Plant Physiology Lab seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented student worker to assist with a range of laboratory and research tasks. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in plant physiology and be willing to learn new techniques and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with daily laboratory tasks including cleaning and maintaining equipment, preparing solutions, and managing inventory of laboratory supplies.
  2. Participate in setting up, conducting, and documenting experiments under the supervision of the supervisor.
  3. Particularly, participate in transgenic plant production and maintenance after training.
  4. Use lab software for data entry, analysis, and presentation.
  5. Assist with the care and maintenance of plants in the lab and greenhouse.
  6. Follow all laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
  7. Attend lab meetings and contribute to discussions on research findings and project progress.

Qualifications:

  1. Currently enrolled in a biology or related degree program at ESU.
  2. Prior lab experience or coursework involving plant biology or physiology is preferred but not required.
  3. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn lab-specific software.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  7. Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 25 pounds and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Additional Information:

  • Hourly Rate $7.25 
  • This position requires a commitment of at least 3 hours per week. The schedule is flexible. Some weekend and evening hours may be required depending on the needs of the laboratory.
  • The Plant Physiology Lab Assistant is a valuable member of our research team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in plant physiology research, working closely with faculty and graduate students. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
