Toronto Community Housing’s Youth/Second Career Internship Program was created to test experiences, to allow Interns to meet professionals in different fields, and develop experience for adults seeking entry into a new career avenue. Internships and training opportunities provided by Toronto Community Housing will enable Interns to develop skills and interests through meaningful opportunities that may lead to careers providing financial stability and ongoing professional development.
We currently have opportunities in the below business units. When submitting your application, we ask that you please clearly mention your most-preferred business unit from the list provided that you would like to be considered for.
Business Units Available for Selection:
- Strategic Communications (Employee Communications) - 931 Yonge Street
The Employee Communications team manages TCHC's corporate communications channels, overseeing content for the company's intranet site, internal newsletter, high-level communications for the executive leadership team (e.g. event brief, speaking notes, etc), and organizes the quarterly-held Leadership Exchange events. We also manage the creation of communication tools and templates. The successful intern will support our team by working on large projects, such as the annual United Way campaign, and developing, and creating content for our internal newsletter.
- Strategic Communications (Digital Brand & Design) - 931 Yonge Street
The Digital Brand and Design team is part of TCHC's Strategic Communications team. We manage TCHC's digital channels (website, social media, email, SMS), providing important and timely information to tenants. We are also responsible for TCHC's visual branding. The successful intern will help design important communication materials, support our social media and content development, and help us continue to enhance and refine our digital channels.
- Legal Services (Risk Management) - 931 Yonge Street
For an intern, risk management can be surprisingly appealing because it provides exposure to the entire organization rather than just one department. It offers a unique opportunity to understand how strategic decisions are made, how organizations protect themselves, and how leadership balances opportunities and risks.
- Development (Revitalization & Engagement) – 37 Varna Drive
The Revitalization Engagement Team works alongside residents, community partners, City divisions, and development teams to help shape the future of Lawrence Heights and Neptune through one of Toronto's largest community revitalization initiatives. The successful intern will gain hands-on experience in community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, event planning, and equitable city-building while contributing to projects that have a meaningful and lasting impact on residents and neighborhoods.
- Operations (Community Economic Development) - 931 Yonge Street
Community Economic Development (CED) promotes employment, training, and mentorship opportunities for Toronto Community Housing tenants through a range of programs and partnerships, including YouthWorx, Internships, and the Next Neuroscientist Program. These initiatives provide participants with meaningful work experience, professional development, and opportunities to build the skills needed for future employment.
- Operations (Centralized Operations) - 931 Yonge Street
The Non‑Arrears Support Team is a high‑visibility unit within Central Operations that supports staff and tenants in maintaining healthy, stable tenancies and strong communities. An intern in this role will gain hands‑on experience with escalated tenant support, exposure to interdepartmental collaboration, and insight into how centralized operational teams drive service excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in housing operations, tenant relations, and practical problem‑solving in a dynamic environment.
- People & Culture (Learning & Organizational Development) - 931 Yonge Street
Our Learning & Organizational Development team works across TCHC to strengthen how people Learn, Lead, Perform, and Navigate Change. Our portfolio spans learning and Development, leadership development, performance management, change management, employee onboarding, and organizational culture, giving interns hands-on exposure to meaningful, organization-wide initiatives and the opportunity to contribute to work that directly impacts employees and the organization.
These positions provide the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. The amount of time required to work at a TCHC work location is flexible, while considering operational and service delivery requirements.
In this role you will support TCHC’s tenant focused culture.
What you’ll do
- Liaise with other divisions within the organization and potentially external partners helping to coordinate data management, administration, outreach/community materials, events, and local initiatives
- Support the planning and coordination of events, implementation and promotion of programs or initiatives, trainings or meetings
- Develop and distribute promotional materials
- Liaise with relevant business units, community partners, agencies, stakeholders or clients of assigned business unit
- Support teams to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs or projects
- Collect and complete administrative forms, reports, evaluation tools and statistical information, as necessary
- Perform administrative duties including data entry, creating correspondence, taking notes, etc. as required
- Conduct outreach activities to establish contact with tenants or stakeholders for relevant business unit activities
- Complete progress reports bi-weekly and a final report at the end of the work term
- Other related duties as assigned
What you’ll need
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) or College, University degree
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and/or academic background in working with TCHC Tenants
- Experience with program planning, implementation, evaluation and /or project management
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Be proactive and ready to lead initiatives where requested
- Show a demonstrated commitment or interest in social housing, or effecting positive change in TCHC’s communities across the city
- Strong written, verbal communication and organizational skills
- Independent research skills
- Developed understanding of local and provincial housing policies considered an asset
- Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills
- Capable of taking responsibility and showing initiative in a fast-paced environment
- Strong presentation skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
