About the Role

This student internship is being offered as a part of EO's Ignite Internships program and is for high school students only. This internship is offered in partnership with the Washington County Public Library (WCPL). Students will be employed by WCPL and all hiring decisions will be made by WCPL personnel. WCPL has provided the following job description for this internship: 

The IT Technician Intern willassist library staff with daily operations, technology related tasks, and special projects while
gaining practical experience in a public library setting. The IT Technician Intern will report to the IT/Community
Engagement Librarian.


Technology & Library Support Responsibilities 

  • Perform technology-related duties under the direction and supervision of the Information Technology Librarian. 
  • Assist with maintaining and supporting the library’s technology network, including approximately 15 staff computers and 5 public-access computers. 
  • Assist with routine technology maintenance and troubleshooting under the direction of library staff. 
  • Verify staff computers have current Microsoft Windows and web browser updates installed to help maintain network security. 
  • Check public-access computers to ensure browser history, cache, cookies, and other temporary user data are cleared after each reboot. 
  • Verify that Microsoft Windows, BlOS/firmware, and web browser updates are deployed on public-access computers as needed. 
  • Monitor public computers for basic performance, connectivity, and software issues and report problems requiring additional technical support. 
  • Check the status and connectivity of the library’s network and wireless printers. 
  • Replace or replenish printer supplies, such as toner, ink, and paper, as needed. 
  • Assist with identifying and documenting technology problems for escalation to the library’s IT service provider when necessary. 
  • Assist with maintaining an organized inventory of computers, printers, peripherals, and other technology equipment. 
  • Perform routine technology checks and document completed maintenance to help ensure library computers remain secure, current, and available for staff and public use. 
  • Assist the Information Technology Librarian with special technology projects, equipment upgrades, software updates, and other IT-related tasks as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned under the direction of the Information Technology Librarian and library administration.
