About the Role

Job Description:

 

Citizens Inc. is seeking a motivated and high-performing individual to join our team as the Actuarial Intern. This position requires the employee to work with high attention to detail and within time sensitive deadlines.  The Actuarial Intern works closely with other Actuarial Analysts and reports directly to the Sr. Actuary in Austin, TX. 

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist in completing quarterly and annual STAT/GAAP/TAX claims and reserve reporting
  • Prepares data for annual statement exhibits
  • Assist Senior Actuaries and team with providing data for various profitability studies, pricing, filings and reserving 
  • Develops and improves analytical tools
  • Assists with administrative and clerical tasks as needed, including calculations to assist customer service, admin system updates, policy form review
  • Assists with the summary and presentation of pricing results
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Actuarial Studies including life contingencies and interest theory. Ability to calculate and analyze complex statistical data and apply it appropriately
  • Coursework in statistics, mathematics, accounting, or related field
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledge and experience in MS Access and MS Excel 
  • Experience with SAS, SQL, R, or VBA, with an emphasis on data analytics

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

 

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, economic, accounting and statistical principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial and statistical data
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations involving complex business and statistical situations including forecasting
  • Ability to interpret a variety of procedures, instructions and reports

Work Environment

Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is generally low. 

 

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Ability to reach high and low; open, close and retrieve files from file cabinets as well as operate computer keyboard and appropriate office equipment.  The position requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, sit for long periods of time, lift up to 15 lbs., open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
