About The Company
GE Vernova is a purpose-built energy technology company on a mission to electrify to thrive and decarbonize the world. It is made up of three businesses -- Power, Electrification, and Wind -- with focus on accelerating the path to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy, while helping our customers power economies and deliver the electricity that is vital to health, safety, security, and improved quality of life. The world needs more energy, smarter energy. With energy demand expected to grow by more than 50% in the next 20 years, we are continuously innovating to meet the moment…like we have for the past 130 years. The Energy of Change and relentless optimism are what drive us – it’s about never giving up and seeing what’s possible so that we deliver the energy technologies the world needs right now and for generations to come. GE Vernova’s attitude and edge is embedded in its name. We retain our treasured legacy, “GE,” as an enduring and hard-earned badge of quality and ingenuity. “Ver” / “verde” signal Earth’s verdant and lush ecosystems. “Nova,” from the Latin “novus,” nods to a new, innovative era of lower carbon energy that GE Vernova will help deliver. Together, we have the energy to change the world.
About the Role

Job Description Summary

GE Vernova is seeking a motivated University Intern to join the DERMS team, supporting the implementation and integration of Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) solutions for utility customers.

This role is suited to a university student with a strong interest in electricity networks, grid management, software implementation and system integration, who wants to gain practical experience working with technologies that enable utilities to manage increasingly distributed and digital power systems.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous vacation work or internship experience within a utility or energy organisation and an understanding of how utilities operate and manage electricity networks.

You will work alongside solution architects, software engineers, integration specialists and utility-domain experts to support the delivery and implementation of DERMS solutions.

Job Description

About DERMS (What is a Distributed Energy Resource Management System)
DERMS is an important technology supporting the evolution of modern electricity networks.
As utilities increasingly connect solar PV, batteries, electric vehicles, demand response and other Distributed Energy Resources (DER), they require sophisticated software to monitor, coordinate and optimise these resources.

As part of the DERMS team, you will develop an understanding of how DERMS can help utilities:

  • Manage increasing levels of distributed generation.
  • Improve visibility of distribution networks.
  • Coordinate distributed energy resources.
  • Support network constraints and congestion management.
  • Improve grid reliability and operational flexibility.
  • Integrate customer-owned energy resources.
  • Support the transition towards a more decentralised electricity system.

What You'll Do
Depending on experience and project requirements, you will:

  • Support the integration, configuration and implementation of DERMS solutions for utility customers.
  • Assist the DERMS team with solution integration activities across software, systems and utility platforms.
  • Develop an understanding of how DERMS interacts with existing utility systems, including ADMS, SCADA, GIS, OMS, EMS and other operational platforms.
  • Support configuration and testing of interfaces between DERMS and external systems.
  • Assist with system integration testing, functional testing and defect investigation.
  • Support software deployment, configuration management and release activities.
  • Help analyse technical requirements and translate them into implementation and integration activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting integration issues across application, network and system boundaries.
  • Develop an understanding of APIs, data flows, messaging and system-to-system communication.
  • Support technical documentation, solution configuration and implementation procedures.
  • Work with engineering teams to investigate issues and identify improvements to the solution.
  • Assist with testing DERMS functionality and validating system behaviour against customer and technical requirements.
  • Gain exposure to the implementation of software within utility operational environments.

What You'll Need

  • Currently studying a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Previous vacation work, internship or industry experience within a utility, electricity or energy organisation.
  • Demonstrated interest in electricity grids and utility operations.
  • Strong interest in DERMS and Distributed Energy Resources.
  • Interest in software implementation, system integration and deployment.
  • An understanding of basic software and technology concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, software specialists and customer-facing teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn complex technical and utility-domain concepts.

Desirable

Experience or familiarity with:

  • DERMS, ADMS, SCADA, EMS, OMS or other utility management systems.
  • Electricity distribution networks.
  • Distributed Energy Resources such as solar PV, batteries, EVs and demand response.
  • Software integration and implementation.
  • REST APIs and web services.
  • JSON, XML or other data-exchange formats.
  • SQL and databases.
  • Python or other scripting languages.
  • Git and software version control.
  • CI/CD and DevOps concepts.
  • Cloud technologies.
  • Networking fundamentals.
  • System integration testing.
  • Agile software development methodologies.

Why This Role?
This internship provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of: Energy + Software + Grid Management
You will gain practical exposure to the implementation of technology that helps utilities manage the growing complexity of modern electricity networks.

The role is particularly suited to a student who wants to develop a career in:

  • DERMS
  • Digital Grid
  • Utility Software
  • Solution Integration
  • Software Implementation
  • Grid Management
  • Energy Management Systems
  • Digital Transformation
  • Electricity Network Engineering

What Will Make You Stand Out?
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate that they have experience working within a utility environment and want to apply their technical skills to the implementation and integration of DERMS solutions that will help shape the future of the electricity grid.

An interest in how software moves from development → integration → testing → deployment → operational use within a utility environment is especially valuable.

What to Include in Your Application

Please include your CV and a short statement outlining

  • Your previous utility or energy-sector experience.
  • Your interest in DERMS and modern electricity grid management.
  • Your understanding of Distributed Energy Resources such as solar, batteries or EVs (if any)
  • Any experience with software integration, implementation, testing or deployment.
  • Relevant university projects, technical skills or engineering experience.
  • What you hope to learn and contribute to the DERMS team during your internship.

As GE Vernova is a global organization, working across different time zones, and monitoring, reading and responding to contact outside normal working hours can be expected.
