About the Role

HPUMC Wesley House Student Intern - Freshmen Ministry

The Wesley House Intern will support the College Ministry in leading students to become deeply devoted followers of Jesus Christ. This is a part-time, semesterly position from August 2026 to December 2026 with possibility for continuation; excluding SMU sanctioned breaks; working 4-6 hours per week with a focus on ministry to college freshmen.

The Wesley House Student Interns must thrive in a fast-paced, highly relational, creative environment with tight deadlines and busy schedules. 

As with all HPUMC positions, this person is expected to embody the mission of HPUMC each and every day - to help people become deeply devoted followers of Christ. They are also expected to demonstrate the values of HPUMC, which include: (1) being God led, (2) caring for one another, (3) being respectful of our heritage, and (4) being focused on our future. 

Reports To: Director of College Ministry

Ministrial Exemption: No

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Campus: Mockingbird Campus -- Dallas, TX 

Working Hours: Part-time, anticipated 4-6 hours per week

Anticipated Schedule: Tuesday - 2 hours; Wednesday - 2 hours; Thursday - 2 hours. Can vary depending on college student class schedule. 

During certain times of the semester, additional hours may be necessary to meet the demands of the job. Interns must be available to travel and attend our retreat weekend in both the Fall and Spring semesters. 

Job Responsibilities and Duties: 

General 

  • Alongside the Director and Coordinator, plan and execute all activities related to ministry and outreach to college freshmen.
  • Co-lead the weekly Freshmen Small Group, preparing to teach curriculum provided by the Director, inviting freshmen to participate, and seeking to ensure that all in attendance feel valued and included. 
  • Maintain a weekly routine of meeting with freshmen for the sake of mentorship, relationship building, and encouragement in pursuit of a growing faith and deeper connection to the ministry.
  • Expected to be a warm and welcoming presence within the house and at HPUMC.
  • Must exemplify the Wesley House mission, vision, and values.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education & Desired Skills: 

  1. Must pass a background check, drug screen and successfully complete Ministry Safe training 

2. Must have completed freshman year of college 

3. Desire to communicate and invest in our students 

4. Solid work ethic and organizational skills 

Preferred Software Experience: 

● Microsoft Office Suite

● Google Suite 

Physical Demands:

Other Qualifications: Must be a Christian committed to living a life that reflects the Gospel, who feels called to Youth Ministry and is comfortable working in a United Methodist Church environment.
