Rising Voices is a nonprofit organization that organizes and develops the leadership of Asian American women, families and young people for power around progressive values and policy in the state of Michigan through community and cultural organizing, electoral engagement, and policy advocacy for a future where all families can thrive.

We envision a state and communities where our families have access to just economic policies, in-language support, affordable and culturally competent healthcare, inclusive education, and a state welcoming to immigrants. Additionally, there is advocacy for workers, policy representation, and elected officials accountable to the people. Our theory of change includes multiple strategies for power that serve to develop leadership within Asian American communities that will move local, state, and federal progressive policy and help elect progressive candidates to champion those issues.

Program Description

Rising Voices is seeking one undergraduate or recent graduate intern for a paid Fall 2026 Organizing Internship, running from September through mid-December, with a 15-hour weekly commitment. Interns will support grassroots organizing efforts that build the political power of Asian American communities in Michigan. This includes helping plan and support monthly member meetings, coordinating and staffing community canvases, and contributing to base-building and issue-based campaigns. Interns will report to and be supervised by the Community Organizer and Organizing Director.

Intern will also have access to professional development opportunities, including informational interviews with staff and organization-wide trainings and discussions, as scheduling allows.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Community Engagement: Support and help coordinate events such as tabling, signature collection drives, outreach activities, and monthly membership meetings.

• Campaign Support: Participate in Rising Voices’ ongoing campaigns focused on education and economic justice

• Basebuilding: Assist with outreach to expand Rising Voices’ organizing base membership and recruit new members.

• Outreach: Connect with college campus clubs to support Get Out the Vote efforts with college students. 

• Advocacy & Organizing: Learn and apply grassroots organizing tools and contribute to advocacy efforts.

The Ideal Candidate

• Believes in fighting for economic, racial, and social justice for all.

• Can collaborate with a diverse group of people and integrate with the RV team and partner organizations.

• Has an interest in community organizing, policy, or electoral work.

• Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Has strong connections to RV campaign issue areas and lived experiences in Michigan.

• Speaks an Asian language, but not required. 

COMPENSATION

This is a temporary non-exempt 15 hour/week part-time position starting September and ending in mid-December 2026 at an hourly rate of $17/hr. 

HOURS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is hybrid, the intern would ideally be based in Southeast Michigan and be able to travel to Rising Voices’ in-person events when needed. The schedule is flexible to accommodate the intern’s school schedule, but attendance at events in the evening and on the weekends may be requested.
