This year, internship positions are available in the following teams:

Delivery and Technical Solutions: Secondary Systems Design

Secondary Systems Design is where engineering intelligence meets the power network. While transformers, switchgear and circuit breakers form the backbone of the transmission network, Secondary Systems Design creates the intelligence that makes it all work. From protection and control systems to automation, metering and communications, the team designs the circuitry that monitors critical assets, identifies faults, enables remote operation and helps keep the power system stable. 

This is an opportunity to work on complex engineering challenges that combine power systems, digital technologies and automation. You'll contribute to major infrastructure projects, collaborate with experienced electrical engineers and help develop the systems that ensure millions of Queenslanders have access to safe, reliable electricity every day. 

At Powerlink, you'll see your designs move from concept to energisation, playing a direct role in ensuring all of Queensland has access to safe, secure and sustainable energy.

Applications are open to Electrical Engineering students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate study. 

Operations & Planning: Strategic Network Operations

Explore how a large-scale electricity network is planned, monitored and operated. 

Here, you'll work with our Strategic Network Operations team to support projects that improve operational decision-making and network performance. You may assist with network simulations, operational data analysis, dashboard development, forecasting, automation and studies that support future network operations. 

You'll gain exposure to areas such as power system operations, system strength, forecasting, performance monitoring and emerging technologies, while developing practical analytical and problem-solving skills in a real-world environment. 

This is an excellent opportunity to see how data, technology and engineering come together to support the reliable delivery of electricity across Queensland. 

Applications are open to Electrical Engineering students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate study. 

Network Investment: Innovation Team

Help shape the future of energy. Join our Strategy Group and gain hands-on experience working on projects that influence how our organisation evolves and operates. 

You'll contribute to innovation programs, explore emerging technologies, support business improvement initiatives and help identify practical ways AI can solve real business challenges. 

Whether you're researching future trends, analysing data, collaborating with stakeholders or helping bring new ideas to life, you'll gain exposure to work that makes a genuine impact. 

Along the way, you'll develop valuable skills in strategy,  Human Centred Design, Workshop Design & Facilitation, innovation, business analysis and emerging technologies working alongside industry experts. 

Applications are open to students studying Business, Data Science, Commerce, Artificial Intelligence or related disciplines, who have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate study.

Field and Asset Management: Governance Assurance and Insights

As part of the Governance Assurance & Insights team, you'll help turn data into meaningful insights that support operational performance, decision-making and drive better business outcomes. Collaborating with diverse teams, you'll assist with gathering business requirements, analysing datasets, developing dashboards and reports, and identifying opportunities to improve business processes. 

You'll gain hands-on experience with tools such as Power BI, Snowflake and SQL while learning how analytical solutions can help solve real business challenges. This role is ideal for students who enjoy problem-solving, working with data and finding new ways to improve efficiency and performance. 

Applications are open to students studying Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science or Mathematics at any year level. 

Good to know:

This year, our Summer Vacation Program will commence on Monday 16th of November 2026 and run until Friday 5th of February 2027. Please note, there may be a Christmas Closure period over the December period that you will be required to take paid/unpaid leave for.
