About the Role

Summary

 

Mapfre is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious college student to join our Internal Audit team for a 10-week summer internship from June 7th to August 13, 2027 in Webster, Massachusetts. This opportunity provides hands-on experience supporting a strategic and modernization initiative that will improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of financial and operational reporting processes.

 

The intern will play an active role assisting in the planning and execution of an operational audit, working alongside Internal Audit team members and business professionals across claims, underwriting, finance, and other insurance functions. With oversight, assist with audit testing, data validation and analysis, workpaper preparation, industry and regulatory research, and documentation of audit results. The role will also provide opportunities to identify potential risks and process improvements, explore the use of AI, automation, and analytics in auditing, and develop business communication and relationship management skills through interactions with process owners, leadership, and cross-functional teams.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Assist the Internal Audit team with planning and execution activities for an operational audit engagement.
  • Perform basic audit testing procedures, including reviewing supporting documentation, validating data, and documenting results under the supervision of an Internal Audit Manager.
  • Assist in preparing audit workpapers and maintaining audit documentation in accordance with Internal Audit methodology.
  • Utilize data analysis techniques to identify trends, anomalies, and potential risk areas within business operations.
  • Analyze audit evidence and identify potential exceptions for review by audit team members.
  • Research industry practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging risks relevant to the audit engagement.
  • Assist with audit issue tracking, status reporting, and preparation of final audit documentation.
  • Collaborate with business partners across claims, underwriting, finance, and other insurance functions to understand processes and evaluate opportunities for improvement.
  • Explore opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and analytics to enhance audit effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Develop professional communication, relationship management, and presentation skills through interactions with process owners, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in networking, training, and professional development activities offered through the Mapfre Insurance Summer Internship Program. 

 

What we are looking for

 

Education

 

Current enrollment in Bachelor's degree program (Rising Junior or Senior) OR current enrollment in a Master's degree program with the following areas of focus: Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Management Information Systems or related field.

 

Required Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Fundamental understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical and creative thinking abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Familiarity with data analysis concepts and tools such as SQL, Python, or Power BI.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake or other relational database platforms.
  • Exposure to business process analysis or process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve productivity, automate tasks, or support analytical activities.

Pay Transparency: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by several factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. Some roles at Mapfre are eligible for commission and/or bonus earnings, in addition to salary, calculated based upon factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

 

Hourly Range: $29.00 - $31.00
