Job Description:

Tekron, a Microchip Technology Incorporated company, develops precision GPS/GNSS clocks and time synchronisation solutions used in critical infrastructure, including power grids, telecommunications networks, enterprise systems, and advanced network environments around the world.

We are looking for five motivated summer interns to join our engineering teams for 12 weeks from November 2026 to February 2027. Each intern will work on a hands-on project in areas such as application engineering, test automation, system validation, GNSS receiver integration, or electronic module design.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and mentors on real product development activities, gaining practical experience in advanced timing, embedded systems, GNSS technologies, hardware/software integration, testing, and technical documentation.

What You’ll Work On

  • Testing, validating, and documenting real-world product applications
  • Developing or improving automated test frameworks for software and hardware validation
  • Supporting system-level testing, troubleshooting, and product verification
  • Evaluating GNSS receiver technologies, performance, signal quality, and integration approaches
  • Assisting with electronic circuit, PCB, RF, and module design and validation activities
  • Analysing test results, documenting findings, and sharing recommendations with engineering teams

Internship Projects:

(1) Application Engineering Documentation and Testing
Location: Petone, Wellington
 

Work with our Application Engineering team to validate and document real-world applications for newly introduced products. This project involves researching deployment scenarios, testing product performance, and developing technical documentation that supports customer adoption and future product development.

(2) Test Automation Framework Development
Location: Auckland
 

Assist with the development of automated testing frameworks and validation systems for our timing products. You will contribute to improving software and hardware testing efficiency, reliability, and scalability across multiple platforms.

(3) System Test and Validation
Location: Petone, Wellington
 

Join the team developing a new platform planned for release in 2027. This role focuses on system-level testing, hardware and software integration, and validation activities to ensure reliability and performance under real-world conditions.

(4) Septentrio Receiver Integration Testing and Performance Evaluation
Location: Petone, Wellington
 

Support the testing and integration of advanced GNSS receiver technologies for future product development. This project involves evaluating receiver performance, interoperability, positioning accuracy, and signal reliability in integrated systems.

(5) Septentrio Receiver Module Design and Validation
Location: Petone, Wellington
 

Contribute to the design and validation of a compact Septentrio GNSS receiver module for integration into future products. You will work on circuitry, PCB development, RF design, communication interfaces, and hardware testing.

Requirements/Qualifications:

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for curious, motivated, and detail-oriented students who enjoy solving technical problems and working collaboratively in an engineering environment.

  • Engineering, electronics, computer science, software engineering, telecommunications, or related study
  • Interest in embedded systems, automation, GNSS, RF systems, product testing, or hardware/software integration
  • Experience or interest in Python, C#, embedded C, electronic circuit design, or PCB design
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication, teamwork, organisation, and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn, investigate technical challenges, and contribute to real engineering projects

Eligibility

  • Be studying, or have recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree
  • Be studying science, technology, engineering, design, business, or a related field at a New Zealand tertiary education institution
  • Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand
