Fraunhofer IGD is the international leading institute for applied research in visual computing. Visual computing is image- and model-based information technology and includes computer graphics and computer vision, as well as virtual and augmented reality. In simple terms, the Fraunhofer researchers in Darmstadt, Rostock, and Kiel are turning information into images and extracting information from images. In cooperation with its partners, technical solutions and market-relevant products are created. Prototypes and integrated solutions are developed in accordance with customized requirements. About the Role

Das Fraunhofer-Institut für Digitale Medientechnologie IDMT ist Teil der Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Das Institut mit Hauptsitz auf dem Campus der Technischen Universität Ilmenau ist international anerkannt für seine Expertise in den Bereichen angewandte Elektroakustik und Audiotechnik, KI-basierte Signalanalyse und maschinelles Lernen sowie Datenschutz und -sicherheit. Unter dem Claim »Where AI means Audio Intelligence« arbeiten die Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler in Ilmenau an Technologien für die sichere und effiziente KI-basierte Erkennung und Klassifizierung von Audio- und Videodaten. Diese Technologien kommen unter anderem zur Überwachung industrieller Fertigungsprozesse, aber auch beim Verkehrsmonitoring oder im Medienkontext zum Einsatz, beispielsweise wenn es um automatische Verschlagwortung oder die Erkennung von Audiomanipulationen geht. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die Entwicklung von Algorithmen für die Bereiche Virtuelle Produktentwicklung, intelligente Aktor-Sensor-Systeme und Automotive Audio. Aktuell sind rund 120 Mitarbeitende am Fraunhofer IDMT in Ilmenau beschäftigt.

Die Gruppe Smart Acoustic Solutions entwickelt Technologien für intelligente akustische Sensorsysteme. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Verfahren des akustischen Monitorings, mit denen sich Zustand, Verhalten und zukünftige Entwicklungen technischer oder natürlicher Systeme erfassen und modellieren lassen. Anwendungsfelder reichen von Energiewirtschaft über Ökologie bis hin zu Mobilität. Darüber hinaus erforscht und entwickelt die Gruppe innovative Lautsprechertechnologien – von kompakten MEMS-Lautsprechern über HiFi-Systeme bis zu spezialisierten Alarmgebern. Im Fokus stehen effiziente Schallerzeugung, Miniaturisierung und leistungsoptimierte Ansteuerung, unterstützt durch Simulationen, Messungen und Hörtests.
