POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you comfortable with technology, fluent in Dari and/or Pashto, and want to use your skills and abilities to impact Afghan women’s lives?  

World Relief seeks a Tech Support Intern to join our team!  The Dari/Pashto-speaking Tech Support Intern provides technical assistance to adult refugee women with limited English, literacy levels, and technical skills so they can access virtual education. The intern provides basic digital literacy training and instructs female clients how to use phones, laptops, and Zoom. Ongoing technical support is provided through phone and video calls and driving to refugee clients’ homes as needed to troubleshoot tech problems. The intern also helps refugees connect to affordable internet service. This position requires fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, has a flexible schedule, and is ideal for interns with backgrounds in IT, Education, Social Work, or other majors. The intern must be available Tue, Wed, Thu 8:30 am-12:00 pm. This position is for 10 hours per week. This is a hybrid position, with 1 day in the office and 4 days working from home. The intern will become more familiar with the challenges faced by preliterate refugees, gain experience helping clients become digitally literate, and become aware of the importance of resources that assist preliterate refugees in accessing services. This is an unpaid internship; however, university credit may be available with prior approval.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set up, update, distribute, and track the department’s loaning laptops to clients.
  • Train preliterate clients in the basics of digital literacy (phone and laptop usage) by breaking down complex technical processes so clients can understand how to do it themselves,
  • Provide multiple phone, video, and in-person tech support visits to clients who are facing problems with their laptops, internet, and/or phones.
  • Research and help clients obtain low-cost internet.
  • Assist with creating digital literacy training materials, including making short how-to videos for clients. 
  • Provide general support across the office and with special projects as needed.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Desire to serve vulnerable communities.  
  • Acknowledge World Relief’s faith statement.    
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Fluent in Dari and/or Pashto.   
  • Good technical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot phone and computer problems.
  • Able to work independently and self-manage tasks and time.  
  • Outgoing in meeting new people and quickly building rapport. 
  • Hold current valid US Driver’s License; regular access to a personal vehicle required; must pass Motor Vehicle check.
  • Female-presenting only, in respect for the cultural values of the population served.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Able to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. 
  • Comfortable communicating with and educating clients with limited literacy skills and little English.
  • Comfortable working with PC laptops, WhatsApp, Zoom, iPhones, and Androids.    
  • Strong skills in on-the-spot problem solving and exploring creative solutions.
  • Able to follow directions, learn, and retain new information quickly.
