About Our Agribusiness Commercial Casualty Claims Team

As an Agribusiness Commercial Casualty Claims Intern, you'll gain valuable exposure to the casualty claims process while learning how claims professionals investigate losses, evaluate liability, determine coverage, and support customers through challenging situations. You'll work alongside experienced claims professionals and develop analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills that serve as a foundation for a successful career in insurance and risk management.

A Day in the Life of an Agribusiness Commercial Casualty Claims Intern Might Include:

  • Reviewing and summarizing first notice of loss reports and supporting claim file setup.
  • Assisting with liability investigations by gathering statements, photos, records, and other claim-related documentation.
  • Participating in claim evaluation activities, including policy coverage reviews and liability assessments.
  • Drafting professional correspondence and collaborating with insureds, claimants, agents, vendors, legal counsel, and other business partners.
  • Shadowing experienced adjusters during field visits, inspections, or virtual claim reviews.
  • Supporting reporting initiatives and process improvement projects related to casualty claims operations.
  • Learning about agribusiness liability exposures, insurance coverages, and claims-handling practices.
  • Assisting with subrogation and recovery efforts, including identifying potential third-party liability opportunities.
  • Supporting reserve reviews, payment requests, and claim resolution activities.
  • Assisting with compliance, audit, and documentation requirements.
  • Completing a capstone project and presenting recommendations to Agribusiness Claims leadership.

About You

Education

  • Pursuit of a degree in Insurance, Agribusiness, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Junior status preferred.
  • Involvement in student organizations, leadership activities, and/or prior work experience.

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn about agriculture, liability risks, and the insurance industry.
  • Strong customer service orientation and professionalism.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment.

The national hourly pay range for Nationwide Internships is: $23 - $50
