| Position Summary | If you are a recent graduate and want to build your skills and experience working at an institution of higher education, please consider the following opportunity. The Office of Advising Strategies (OAS) is looking for professional interns to engage in an experience designed to provide on-the-job training and professional development for recent alumni interested in working in Academic Advising and Student Success at UNM. This position serves as a bridge for recent college graduates to careers in fields such as education, higher education administration, coaching and mentoring, human resources, counseling, customer service, and public service. Continuing to build on our current cohort, this professional will join a team committed to the systematic support of advising and student success at UNM while gaining new experience to build their portfolio as a professional. They will be trained by the UNM Advisement Trainer and may be deployed to various academic or integrated advisement centers on an as-needed basis. There, they will receive additional training while supporting the core responsibilities of those centers. Chosen candidates will also support OAS internal initiatives designed to strengthen support for student success and the advisement community. Responsibilities may vary significantly based on organizational needs and, beyond traditional advising, may range from front desk coverage and student-facing customer service to proactive outreach efforts, including cold-calling students, appointment campaigns, data management, and other advising support functions. This role provides the opportunity to develop a broad and diverse skill set through exposure to a wide range of projects, responsibilities, and operational functions, while helping ensure offices remain relevant, responsive, and integral to supporting student success and the work of those who support it. This is a fixed-term position, with a term end date 2 years from date of hire. This position will have a full-time schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Successful candidates should possess a strong desire to support college students in achieving their educational goals. They will need well-developed oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical skills. Experience collaborating and interacting with diverse constituents and the ability to adapt to a fluid placement based on center needs are critical to be successful in this position. | Minimum Qualifications | Must have obtained a Bachelor's or higher level degree no more than 24 months prior to the date of hire OR if the Bachelor's (or higher level) degree was obtained more than 24 months prior to the date of hire, the individual must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's (or higher level) degree program; no previous work experience required. |
