Business Overview | As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. 

 

Program Overview | The Corporate Risk Development Program (Workout) is a ten-week rotational internship that will highlight each business within the Commercial Banking Chief Risk Office. The internship experience includes active portfolio management of a distressed credit portfolio that includes customer-facing conversations, enterprise valuation projects, as well as participating in monthly portfolio reviews. Over the summer, interns will build relationships, be assigned relevant work, coaching, performance feedback sessions, group projects, and informative learning sessions with key leaders. It is designed to provide students with a blend of business and professional developmental training opportunities that incorporates real-world experiences and prepares you for a career at Wells Fargo. The internship program is a pipeline program where successful interns will receive an offer to return the following year for the full-time 2-year Corporate Risk Development Program in Workout.  #earlycareers 

 

Workout Businesses include:  

  • Credit Resolution Group (CRG): Manages and services troubled and distressed customer relationships across the bank's Corporate, Commercial, and Wealth Management business units.  

  • Real Estate Managed Asset Group (REMAG): Manages and services troubled and distressed real estate loans through resolution. 

  • Business Risk Management: Manages Wholesale Workout operational risk, partners with compliance partners, and monitors activities related to Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA)  

 

**Program Placement Track: Commercial Banking CRO | Workout 

 

Responsibilities may include: 

  • Participate in providing, consulting, and support for projects and initiatives with moderate risk 

  • Participate in professional development, speaker series, and other program-related activities 

  • Review various assignments to become familiar with policies and procedures related to tasks and deliverables 

  • Effectively research a risk problem by determining root cause, establishing priorities, and analyzing different outcomes to recommend an appropriate solution 

  • Works cooperatively and builds relationships with others at all levels throughout Corporate Risk and Wells Fargo, and is viewed as a team player by demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and collaboration  

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills by prioritizing work, meeting deadlines and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment  

  • Build and sustain relationships with peers, relationship managers, associates, Executive Office and business partners 

  • Provide strategic support to risk teams in coordination and execution of initiatives 

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate effectively in both a face-to-face and virtual environment  

 

Program dates: June – August 2027 

Program Duration: 10 weeks 

Program Location: Charlotte, NC  

Pay Range: $34.62 / hour 


Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ months of work experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Required Qualifications for Europe, Middle East & Africa only:

  • Work experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, education

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation date between December 2027 – June 2028 in the fields of one or more of the following:  Finance, Accounting, or Economics 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive environment and actively seek and apply feedback to support effective collaboration. 

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills​ 

  • Involvement in extracurricular enrichment activities through one or more of the following: volunteerism, student organization involvement, study abroad program(s), leadership position(s), non-profit involvement​ 

  • Proven ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a collaborative, change driven atmosphere​ 

  • Ability to execute with urgency, drive operational excellence, and apply an enterprise mindset to support effective, well-managed risk operations. 

  • Strong business and financial acumen, with a commitment to providing excellent service and supporting risk-related decisions that drive business impact. 

  • Ability to act with integrity, support risk assessments and risk-based testing, apply risk controls and compliance requirements, and use sound credit management judgment to help manage risk effectively. 

  • Familiarity with AIpowered productivity tools (such as chatbased assistants and builtin features like Microsoft Copilot) to support everyday tasks including research, organizing information, and creating presentations with a strong interest in learning and using these tools responsibly.
