Electrical Engineering Co-Op 

 

As an Electrical Engineering Co‑op, you support the troubleshooting, design, installation, and start‑up of electrical and automatic process control systems in a chemical plant environment; you work closely with experienced engineers, production, and technical staff to improve the reliability, safety, and cost‑effectiveness of process‑area equipment while gaining hands‑on exposure to maintenance, reliability, and operational excellence initiatives.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment issues and provide recommendations to improve reliability and reduce costs associated with process‑area equipment;
  • Support the design, installation, and start‑up of automatic process control, material handling, and distributed control systems;
  • Assist engineers in developing project objectives and scope by analyzing customer requirements and producing sketches, drawings, written descriptions, or specifications for customer approval;
  • Help ensure compliance with engineering standards, engineering procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, plant safety standards, pressure safety design, and environmental standards on all projects;
  • Work with other engineers to gain insight into maintenance and reliability improvement programs in chemical plants;
  • Perform and check engineering calculations following standard methods and principles for assigned projects;
  • Assist with procurement processes, including preparing equipment specifications, supporting bid evaluations, and helping with contract administration;
  • Support engineering cost, feasibility, and planning studies by analyzing customer needs and data, researching options, coordinating with other engineers, and providing recommendations to customers;
  • Collaborate with production and technical staff on day‑to‑day activities such as process troubleshooting and problem solving with operations and compliance organizations to drive attainment of project goals;
  • Aid implementation of the Operational Excellence program and support process improvement/Lean Manufacturing initiatives site‑wide.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering;
  • Successfully completed sophomore year or higher;
  • Ability to drive to and from the work location;
  • Willingness to work in a chemical plant environment;
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week and physically willing and able to climb stairs and ladders;
  • Available for a 6‑month Co‑op assignment for Spring 2027 (January to June) or Fall 2027 (May/June to December), with accommodations for schools on the quarter system as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $43.25. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
