The internship program has an opening for a SOX Compliance Intern who is ready for new and exciting challenges in a fast-paced environment. The internship will provide practical audit experience and will allow the intern to apply accounting, information systems, and audit concepts and principles to develop the core competencies needed to succeed in a business environment.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Assists with scoping and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting framework.
  • Assists with identification of key risks and the related controls within business and IT processes, and design control test steps to address key risks.
  • Participates in client interviews to validate the implementation of SOX controls.
  • Executes test steps to assess operational effectiveness of key controls, providing clear and concise testing documentation for review.
  • Examines activities of various areas of the Company to determine the extent of compliance with policies and procedures, and rules of regulatory agencies.
  • Collects, interprets, and compiles data to complete comprehensive analysis through the use of various applications (e.g., Excel, SAP, HANA, SQL, PowerShell, etc.) and provides root cause analysis for issues identified during testing.
  • Assists in the preparation of testing results reporting and follow up to ensure implementation of remediation plans.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and responsibility with engagement team members

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.



  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio Headquarters required.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems or related field.
  • Graduation dates of December 2027 through May 2029 required.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week during the Summer required.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale preferred.
  • Microsoft Office applications and database application experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and human relations skills preferred.
