About the Role

Primary Purpose

This internship will support Maintenance and Engineering teams by evaluating water usage throughout the facility and identifying opportunities for water conservation and efficiency improvements.  Working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams, the intern will review process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), analyze water distribution systems, and assess current water consumption practices.  The project will focus on identifying practical solutions that reduce water usage, improve systems efficiency, and support sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives. 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Lead a Water Conservation and Water Savings Improvement Project focused on identifying opportunities to reduce water consumption and improve resource efficiency throughout the facility.
  2. Review P&IDs and evaluate facility water systems to identify process improvements, conservation opportunities, and sustainable operating practices.
  3. Analyze water usage data and system performance to support data-driven recommendations that reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
  4. Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to develop practical solutions that support continuous improvement, cost savings, and environmental stewardship.
  5. Gain hands-on experience with industrial utility systems, process flow analysis, and sustainability initiatives while contributing to projects that have measurable impact on facility performance.
  6. Completes assigned tasks identified by department mentor.
  7. Attends semi-monthly seminar series.
  8. Completes and presents summer project presentation.
  9. Completes internship evaluations at weeks 5 and 10.
  10. Follows all company safety policies, standard operating procedure (SOP) regulations, as well as supports the Goal Zero mission statement.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Environmental, Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, or relates discipline).              
  • Strong computer skills aligned with an engineering curriculum, including experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in utilities, water conservations, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams. 
  • Self-motivated, detail-orientated team player committed to safety, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Must pass the Mountaire Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel. 

 

Internship Program Requirements

  • Complete assigned project identified by department mentor.
  • Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities.
  • All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program or final presentations (August 2-6, 2027).
  • All interns are required to complete a 10-minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer.  Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 2-6.
  • All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10).
