About the Role

Area of Interest: Transaction Banking

Business Area: Corporate and Institutional Banking

Short Description: Turn trade insight into action with innovative solutions and global expertise

About the business area

Global Trade Solutions connects the world through trade. Our footprint gives clients access to over 80 per cent of world trade flows providing a powerful mixture of local, regional, and global knowledge to help them spot new opportunities. We provide a safer, smoother digital trade experience. We help clients solve business challenges through innovative solutions and strategic partners, and we bring them insights and ideas to enable them to grow and protect their businesses.

Who you are

We’re looking for curious, motivated people who love solving problems and want to see how global business really works. You don’t need to know the ins and outs of transaction banking just yet – we’ll teach you. What matters most is your integrity and drive to take ownership of challenges and turn them into opportunities.
You could be a great fit if you’re:

  • A collaborator: You enjoy working in teams and know how to support others.
  • A clear communicator: You explain ideas simply and adapt your style to your audience.
  • Proactive and driven: You spot challenges before they become problems and take ownership.
  • Curious about the world: You want to learn how global trade really works.
  • A relationship builder: You like connecting with people and building trust.

What you’ll do

You’ll join a team that helps clients trade around the world by providing working capital and risk management solutions. From deals in motion to the detail behind the paperwork, you’ll see how international trade happens in practice.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll get involved in:

  • Gaining a broad view of Global Trade Solutions – trade cycles, payments, documentation, and risks.
  • Watching deals come to life from start to finish, and learning how teams make them happen.
  • Helping manage risk by using tools to identify and overcome operational and reputational issues.
  • Supporting the operations that underpins global trade, like Letters of Credit.
  • Analysing data in Excel, helping to design pitch materials and reports.
  • Preparing and maintaining records of trade transactions, timelines, and currency movements.
  • Assisting with compliance checks, including sanctions screenings and anti-money laundering (AML).
  • Supporting senior colleagues with trade documentation and reporting.

What you’ll learn

We’ll give you the technical knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills you need to understand transaction banking and make an impact.

Here’s what’s in store:

  • On-the-ground experience – join a dedicated team focused on either Sales or Product.
  • Expert-led training – one week of structured training to sharpen your skills.
  • Stakeholder engagement – work with HSBC colleagues across different business areas and learn how they collaborate.
  • Integrity and compliance – understand the importance of AML, sanctions, and trade law in a global banking environment.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be available to work full time for 10 weeks commencing May 2027
  • Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 3.2/4.0 (or overseas equivalent, as shown on your official university transcript/degree certificate)
  • Expected to graduate between November 2027 and July 2028
  • Be fluent in English
  • We will consider candidates that require visa sponsorship for this role
