About the Role

What is the opportunity?

RBC's Corporate Treasury Liquid Asset Portfolio team manages one of the largest High-Quality Liquid Asset (HQLA) portfolios in Canada: ~$90Bn in retail liquidity assets spanning investment-grade fixed income. Based in Toronto, this is a market-facing opportunity to work directly alongside experienced Portfolio Managers, gaining hands-on exposure to active fixed income portfolio management, rates strategy, and institutional asset allocation.

We look for intellectually curious candidates with a track record of academic achievement, a genuine passion for capital markets, and the initiative to contribute beyond their assigned responsibilities.

What will you do?

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Portfolio Managers on the day-to-day management of the fixed income portfolio, contributing to investment decisions and positioning discussions.
  • Preparing market commentaries covering rates, spreads and macro themes focused on HQLA – developing and articulating your own views on market dynamics.
  • Monitoring current market trends across rates, credit spreads, and macro factors and translating findings into actionable investment insights
  • Building and maintaining strategy meeting decks used in senior stakeholder presentations, requiring strong judgment on structure, narrative, and data visualization.
  • Supporting portfolio performance reporting and benchmarking.
  • Assisting with end-of-day processing, reconciliations, and limit monitoring to develop a full understanding of portfolio operations
  • Collaborating with Risk, Product Control, and Accounting teams on limit management, hedge accounting structures, and financial controls

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Successful completion of at least second year of an undergraduate degree, with a preference for Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering.
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity about capital markets and a demonstrated interest in fixed income and rates
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel; ability to think critically about data and translate it into a clear point of view
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — this role requires producing polished, audience-ready content for senior stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Motivated to take initiative and self-direct learning beyond assigned tasks

Nice to have:

  • CFA enrolment or completion of CSC/CPH is a strong asset
  • Computer programming skills: Python (including libraries for data analysis), SQL (database management)
  • Understanding of fixed income markets, interest rate dynamics, duration, spread analysis, and HQLA regulatory frameworks (LCR, NSFR)
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg terminal
  • Prior exposure to IFRS/US GAAP, hedge accounting, or Volcker/Reg W compliance
  • Prior related work experience in capital markets, portfolio management, or financial analysis
