Position Summary:
The Project Engineer Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Estimators within the HVAC construction Operations (Project Management) Service and Estimating Departments. This internship provides exposure to the full project lifecycle, including estimating, project coordination, and field support, with a focus on local construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, takeoffs, and bid documents for HVAC construction and service projects
- Support Project Managers and Project Engineers with submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and project documentation
- Help track project progress, schedules, and budgets
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather pricing and technical information
- Participate in site visits to observe installation and construction activities
- Maintain organized project files and assist with contract documentation
- Perform general administrative and other support tasks as needed
Learning Opportunities:
- Understanding HVAC & Plumbing systems and the construction process
- Exposure to estimating techniques and project cost analysis
- Experience with project management tools and documentation workflows
- Insight into coordination between field operations and office teams
Qualifications:
- Actively enrolled in an engineering program at an accredited university or college
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office prog
- rams (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.) and in the use of standard office equipment (ie. Copiers, Scanners, Fax, etc.)
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborates effectively
- Ability to work 15-20 hours/week (flexible schedule)
- Physically able to lift and move up to 20 pounds
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a variety of methods and platforms: oral, written, interpersonal, electronic and virtual
- Must show proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Valid Hawaii Drivers License
- All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework or exposure to HVAC, thermodynamics, or construction methods
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software (a plus)
- Construction industry literacy such as understanding specifications and drawings
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and field environments
- Local travel to job sites may be required
