JOB TITLE
Intern – Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
POSITION SUMMARY
The ASC Intern provides administrative and non-clinical support to the ambulatory surgery center while gaining hands-on exposure to healthcare operations and the patient experience. The intern assists center leadership, front-office staff, and nursing staff with routine administrative activities, patient-facing support, organization of supplies and work areas, and non-clinical nursing support activities such as bed and room turnovers.
This position works under the direction and supervision of center staff and does not independently provide patient care or perform duties requiring a professional license or certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provides general administrative support to center leadership and staff, including filing, scanning, organizing documents, preparing materials, data entry, and other routine clerical activities.
• Greets and assists patients, visitors, physicians, and team members and helps direct individuals to the appropriate area or staff member.
• Assists front-office staff with routine registration-related administrative activities, including organizing paperwork and preparing patient materials, as directed. The Patient Registration Representative position includes registration, documentation, and coordination with patients and clinical staff; the intern's responsibilities would be limited to appropriate support activities rather than independent registration or financial functions.
• Supports nursing staff with non-clinical activities, including bed and room turnovers, changing linens, preparing patient areas for the next case, and restocking supplies.
• Maintains clean, orderly, organized, and appropriately stocked patient care and common areas.
• Assists with inventory organization, supply stocking, and identification of items requiring replenishment.
• Assists with non-clinical patient flow activities, including escorting or directing patients and families when appropriate and under staff direction.
• Supports the preparation and turnover of patient areas between cases without performing direct patient care or clinical procedures.
• Assists with center projects and other administrative or operational activities that provide exposure to ambulatory surgery center operations.
• Communicates professionally and respectfully with patients, families, physicians, vendors, and team members.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality and follows applicable HIPAA, infection prevention, safety, regulatory, accreditation, and center requirements.
• Performs other administrative and non-clinical support duties appropriate to the internship and assigned by center leadership.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Current student with an interest in healthcare, healthcare administration, nursing, business, or a related field preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately manage sensitive information.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively, and maintain professionalism in a healthcare environment.
• Basic computer and organizational skills.
