PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Simon Property Group, the acknowledged leader in the development, ownership and management of retail shopping centers, seeks an individual currently enrolled in an accredited law school for the position of Summer Intern within the Legal Leasing Department.  The successful candidate must possess a high level of organizational skills, and must bring a high level of energy and work ethic to the position.  In exchange, the Intern will be exposed to situations and processes which will be valuable assets which the Intern can apply in future endeavors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Contribute to the efficient, timely completion of routine and special projects such as Lender Approval Requirements, Internet Sales Reporting Requirements and Tenant Entity/Guarantor Requirements by conducting document review and research and evaluating language.

  • Assist in the negotiation of various lease and lease – related documents, under the supervision of staff attorneys.

  • Assist in the preparation of routine reports for internal use.

  • Prepare legal correspondence, under the supervision of staff attorneys.

EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Heavy exposure to commercial document negotiation and drafting.

  • An opportunity to develop drafting, negotiation and professional communication skills.

  • An opportunity to observe the practical application within a real-world corporate setting of several fundamental areas of the law including, but not limited to,  Contract; Real Property; Agency; Corporations; Finance and Environmental matters.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Students applying for an Internship within the Legal Leasing Department must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school.  Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as a working familiarity with Microsoft Word.
